The police can't just take your camera without good reason. They have to believe it has footage of a serious crime not just speeding to confiscate it on the spot.

What is the appeal of filming road riding.

Sure I get it for accidents.

Or if you wanna grab a few screen shots in the alps or close calls.

But what the fk is the point. I mean here we are in the 21st century where we are paying 50-100 quid a month for on demand tele, you can stream blockbusters in your living room On a 50 inch teLe, sport from around the world, every TV show you could think of you can get At the touch of a button instantly.

But we will watch someone bimble around the lakes. Madness.

I'd be wary of passing bad advice around like this, however well intentioned. You'd be unlucky to have your camera and storage seized, but it could easily happen. Certainly, if you're not getting away with a friendly warning you stand to have the camera seized. As I mentioned, the power is there to seize it under S.19 or S.32 of PACE. A similar scenario is when someone has been seen using their phone whilst driving and they're denying having a phone in the car. The car will be searched, and if you object or you lock the car, you'll probably be arrested and the car searched, and then you'll be de-arrested once the search is complete, with the phone seized as evidence.

The powers cover evidence of an offence under investigation, there is no distinction crime, 'serious crime', road traffic offence of whatever. Having a camera there is just making a rope to hang yourself with if you've broken a law, you're just creating evidence that is easily obtained.
