I test rode the new Multistrada 1200S at the weekend and also took a 2013 S out as well for comparison.

Both very good bikes, the engine on both is fantastic, they handle brilliantly and are very comfortable and easy to use.
To compare the 2, there are obvious design changes but the set-up is near identical. They feel exactly the same to ride, the 2015 engine is a touch smoother low down (you can afford to cruise in a higher gear) but the performance of the 2 bikes is identical, regardless of what the figures say, real world there is no difference.

The new equipment on the S model is the standout improvement, notably the dash which is great and the lights are incredible. Even in broad daylight you can see the main beam in front of you. The brakes are also much improved.
I was a bit disappointed with the lack of wind protection with the standard seat. This obviously improved with the low seat but this isn’t much good as I’m 6’2.

Overall I was very impressed, Ducati have really made this bike the complete package for me now and it will take something very special to make me spend my money elsewhere. Also the service we received at Seastar Superbikes was fantastic, would really recommend them.

starting at £15595 it would need to be impressive. Unfortunately for some it seems the ownership experience doesn't quite live upto expectations*
  • No first hand experience but there does seem to be plenty of stories of woe and great expense once the miles rack up.

I'm waiting for a test of the S1000XR before I decide, tested the ducati recently and it is very good.

The non-S model is a fair bit cheaper but doesn't have the LED cornering lights, dash or clever electronic suspension but I think it's still a better bike than the alternatives like the Versys I rode a few weeks ago. Although if you want luggage etc. then it does start to add up again. The only thing putting me off an older Multi is those tales of woe, a years warranty on a 2013 bike was over £600!

I'm exactly the same. Current delivery dates are mid august for both bikes and I expect both to increase once the XR is available for demo.

I've been keeping an eye on these reviews and it's interesting to see you say the two are near identical in terms of performance. The last previous-gen Skyhook models are doing for £11-12k with not many miles on them – I'd find it hard to justify the extra £4k for the new one! I've ridden the 2013 S model twice and it was hilarious - top of my list of practical bikes that make you ride like an arse biggrin

Then again I wonder how well the original Ohlins MTS1200S models ride – they're about £8-10k now, and I bet they're still impressive amounts of fun.
