I'm thinking of doing a trackday but my insurance policy doesn't cover trackdays.

Options are 1) go uninsured. Possible but my bike is new and so binning it would be expensive (and emotionally painful)
2) Hire a bike. I've done this in the past. But adds quite a lot to the cost of the trackday and 3) try and get trackday cover.

For option 3: has anyone done this? What was the cost? Any recommendations for who to contact?

Fixed that for you.

I thought insurance companies had caught onto that. Does it still work? Not that I would try it ....

it's all been said already.

Don't do the fraud thing, even though it's highly unlikely you'd get caught.

Moris offer track day insurance.

I haven't used it for a few years but when my bike was almost new, for me it was worth paying the premium for peace of mind, knowing that if you made a mess of your bike, you were covered.

You can choose how comprehensive you want the cover to be, and the excess. I think I used to pay about £90 per day for ground up cover, but that was in 2008/09. Not cheap, but good value - cheaper than hiring a bike and MUCH cheaper than writing off over 10 grand's worth of pride and joy.

Got free unlimited track day insurance with MCE policy. I think it only covers 50 percent, so still better than nothing.

Cue all the MCE are the devil responses.

Just tried Moris for a quote.

Max value of bike is £12,000

Excess £875.

One trackday - £251

In the grand scheme of things that isnt too bad if you're unfortunate enough to do a proper job - last time I looked at this over 10 years ago quotes ranged from 5% to 10% of value + no cover for plastics and a ludicrous excess.
A £9000 ZX10 was around £800 for one day with an excess of around £1500 - cheaper to get track plastics, crash protection and take the risk.

Probably no use for someone that's splashed out on a Panigale or similar as there's no cover for bikes valued over £12,000.

With these massive excesses surely it makes sense to get after market fairings and crash bungs - so you've negated most of the risk. Then it's only avoiding barrel rolling it through the gravel to worry about!

It's double your road excess, then it covers 50% of the balance. And the excess waiver scheme aka "zero excess" on your road policy doesn't count.

Cor, that's got more expensive then! I know that they weren't able to offer it for a while, and think that was because they were having to find a new insurer. I guess the one that the did find assessed the risk a little differently to the old one!

I've just found details of a single day policy in an old email. In 2009 I had £8000 of cover with a £500 excess, ground up including plastics. Premium was £89.48.

Much cheaper to hire a bike as only around £200 and that includes wear and tear and petrol.

Your excess is upped to 50 percent of the bikes value. Road excess is irrelevant if you have an excess waiver (as i do)

Quote from policy 'Where your motorcycle is being used in connection with any such event the excess payable is increased to 50% of your motorcycle value, subject to a minimum of £1000.00.'

So as i said, you get 50 percent of the value of the bike back. Still not bad if you ask me.
