Is it possible? :-)

Am shipping bikes down to south of France for some mates and one more has decided he'd like to come along. These are all retrobaked bikes so no fairings.

I know I can get 6 in there but has anyone managed 7 without damaging them!? I thought there might be room for one sideways across the back...

Perhaps wishful thinking.

You need to get big pieces of thick foam to stick between the bikes and just cram them in.

If it's a high roof Jumbo, then pile them on top of each other wink

A LWB Sprinter looks like it'd swallow about 15 bikes with ease, but not sure how a Jumbo Transit compares size wise.

Cheers guys, sounds like foam pads and an assortment of levers is the way forward! hehe

Some guys are a bit precious about their machines so need to make sure stuff stays put.

I know you can get three road bikes in a normal Transit. That's 54" wheel arch to wheel arch. Lengthwise bikes are about 80" long. What does 160" on the load bay leave you at the back?

+1 to foam pads, cushions (she can always buy more) and a fair few straps.

My bike's still got a nice scratched bar end weight where it punched its way through the ply lining. Something else on "the list" to sort out.

Edit. Long cable ties are great to keep the sprung mounted foot pegs tied up and out of harm's way.

Also, consider a block of wood under a rear tyre to raise things like footpegs or exhausts above the bike next to it. It just helps offset all the sticky out bits

Get bidding on old furniture on eBay / gumtree and use the seat pads. My old conservatory furniture seat cushions are doing sterling service now in my van when several bikes are being transported.

I'd check their weight. 7 might be over max payload

A good point! Looks like I'd be limited to 1300kg of payload with which we could probably just sneak through with 7 bikes. A few of them are in the 140-150kg range.

Will need to fetch my abacus...

Don't forget to include passengers and kit etc in your calculations.
