hi guys
trying to fit a rear hugger on a bmw f800r, got all the bolts out bar one right at the back and tight for access, it seems the bolt is rounded out and my bit just slips
i have read various things to try and was hoping for some real world solutions.
i was thinking of trying to hammer on a socket then turn off as normal? not sure if the socket will grip enough and if i can get room to really hammer it on.
someone said to try cutting a slot in head and turn out with screwdriver....would need to borrow a dremell as cant get hack saw in there!
lots of people say to try next size up of torx or even allen head and remove
stuck on what to try...quick job has turned into a couple of hours now..
so over to you guys what should i try.

Torx if it's a rounded Hex head you've rounded

Find a torx that's slightly too big for the hex you're trying to remove. Pop it onto an extension bar and use a mallet to drive it into the rounded hex head. Needn't go all the way in but enough that you can feel it has a good grip
The rounded Hex will be easy to loosen..

If you have access (and it sounds like a no) you can drift the round using a sharp chisel and a hammer, then undo as normal once it's loose.

If you can't get in with the dremel more dismantling may well be needed as mst options will need similar access.
Worst case drill the head off it and unscrew th estub thats now unloaded with mole grips.

Chemical metal a sacrificial hex key into it and leave to set.

Remove and replace with a new one.

Ignore all that ^ - if there's space, buy a set of Irwin sockets and the bh will be straight out.
If there isn't space, ignore me...

I normally bang a slightly larger spline fitting into the torx head. Works (usually) for me.

When you undo it, make sure you hold the end of the bit to make sure it doesn't lever out - this in my experience is the normal reason for it stripping in the first place (Apologies if you already know and do this).

Best of luck smile

I recently fitted a hugger to my F800R and if it's the bolt I'm thinking of you can get better access if you remove the exhaust.

You need to drill into the end of the fastener to use an extractor and since he can't even get a hacksaw in to cut a slot that sounds like it might be difficult. If it's a relatively small fastener it's also daft as small extractors are very easy to snap.

OP, you ought to buy yourself a cheap Dremel clone as they are very useful tools in these situations. My B&Q own brand 'Dremel' has lasted for years of abuse.
