Was supposed to go wales/lake district for the long weekend, ended up in France with a mate who was going to Corsica.

Views and roads were amazing, weather not so much.

Route Napoleon:

amazing road, had a bit of a play with Audi R8 going through it.

Top of Petit St Bernard pass

Camping at Montchavin

Somewhere along the route

Done 2100 miles over 5 days. Coming back to UK was dreadful - 2 days of motorways and pissing down with rain constantly.

Everyone said the GS was a really boring, old mans bike. I quite enjoy mine as you can see.

Will post pictures in a week or so. But leaving tomorrow morning from the Bay Area (San Francisco) to go to Las Vegas. Riding down for a conference next week, and then back again. Luggage is being a bit of a nightmare, but will see on that one. But taking the 4 mountain passes over the Sierra Nevada mountains to do it - 2 on the way there, 2 on the way back. Cant wait.

Was going to do the desert routes again, but we are having a bit of a small heat wave here. Currently 41 C in Las Vegas and likely to hit 43 or more across the desert over the weekend! While I have a mesh set, thats "boil in the bag" temperatures! So going the mountain routes and will enjoy the cooler pine-fresh air!

Rode up to the Lakes yesterday. Absolutely wonderful weather here at the moment. This was from the Honister pass:

Today I will be heading for the Kirkstone and Hardknott passes and anything else that looks interesting.

My first car at Stretton Watermill in 1992, and my bike in exactly the same spot 24 years later!

I bet you wish you still ha dthe Capri...Must be a Ford meet near me this weekend as tehres loads of shiny RS Escorts and Sierras bombing around the place..

'Kin GSXR broke down this morning , couldnt quite believe it, must have been the threat that it was going to pastures new the other week.. Real random electrical fault developed after I stopped around 40 miles into our journey, when I turn the ignition on, everything lights up on the dash as normal for a split second, then dies, if I take the ignition fuse out, the lights come on the dash as normal but of course, no start.

The rev counter makes a sweep of the dial on these GSXRs when you turn it on but now mine does when you turn it off, fuel pump isnt priming either..Im hoping its the battery as its quite possibly the original but thats being optimistic I think.

Anyway, Mrs P was dispatched for munchies whilst we waited for recovery, around 3 hours later I was back at home and decided that we should finish our ride out, this time on the LC, tea and cake in a village seemed a good idea , out on the piss tonight so a quick trip to the supermarket for some cheap vodka and the day has ended a good 'un.

Just got back from a fairly crap ride which at least served as a reminder why I don't like going out during the day, the roads were just too busy - there must have been some sort of gypsy event on as there were caravans and horseboxes everywhere on roads that are normally empty. I just felt rusty and didn't really feel like getting on it. At least the big GSX-R is working properly again, following some fuel map adjustments and some new spark plugs.

I passed another PH BB regular going the other way coming off one of the roads to Rothbury. White leathers, white and red Bell helmet, tall frame, riding a lava red R1 - can you guess who it is? wink If it wasn't him, he has a doppleganger of frightening resemblance out there.

That explains it then. The R1 was looking good.

Don't be too hasty, my Kymco Downtown will fit two helmets under the seat, so maybe consider this as well before you go out and get a TMAX.

It was brilliant and as I'm going to Europe for 3 weeks on my own soon it served as a test run out.

Found out few things:
4-500 miles a day is about 200 more than ideal
Italian motorways are expensive as fk
Need to plan the whole route, especially the way back, ending up with 2 days and 1000km to get back means boring as fk 2 days on mways

Saying that, mate has done 940 km in one day getting back. On S1000R. I struggled after 300 miles with an airhawk....
