'Kin GSXR broke down this morning , couldnt quite believe it, must have been the threat that it was going to pastures new the other week.. Real random electrical fault developed after I stopped around 40 miles into our journey, when I turn the ignition on, everything lights up on the dash as normal for a split second, then dies, if I take the ignition fuse out, the lights come on the dash as normal but of course, no start.
The rev counter makes a sweep of the dial on these GSXRs when you turn it on but now mine does when you turn it off, fuel pump isnt priming either..Im hoping its the battery as its quite possibly the original but thats being optimistic I think.
My GSXF did the same a little while ago chased earths which were all fine, I knicked my dads battery which is much newer 2yrs as opposed to 7yrs and its been fine ever since, I can only think that my old battery can no longer take any stress at start upThe rev counter makes a sweep of the dial on these GSXRs when you turn it on but now mine does when you turn it off, fuel pump isnt priming either..Im hoping its the battery as its quite possibly the original but thats being optimistic I think.
The bike will sometimes come to life briefly (split seconds) with the kill switch off and sometimes even with the ignition off..wont start either way.
Now have to decide between calling in an auto electrician or replacing the loom, a loom may well be a cheaper option.
All set for Spain and Portugal tomorrow. Converted to CBR1000F

Good chance it'll be the wiring from the RH switchgear to the loom. Get the front fairing off and check the loom where the RH switch set connects and the loom around the headstock
Loom around the headstock would be my first check. Had a wire chafe through on a zzr600 which caused weird starting issues, suck as the starter button melting when trying to start the bike in a petrol station!jackthelad1984 said:

I was on same ferry as those two beauties, they were on a trailer. Just along the road should be a pair of kawasaki h2's with well worn rear tyres!3DP said:
This is what happens when you buy an old stter with a hacked up loom. Pity the next owner
