Why do you tape your lights smile

nice photo, I often like seeing road bikes on track.

Two reasons-
If an accident happens, glass won't go flying everywhere. Plastic is easier to collect up.
Bit of extra protection from stones and other debris.

Lights aren't glass though, they're a plastic compound

You'll get far less debris on track than on any road.

If someone runs off track and drags a lot of gravel back onto the road, and then someone rides through said gravel and pings it up into the air, and then you ride through it at 100+ mph, it stings a bit. So I don't see the harm in wanting to protect your lights. Agreed they are plastic but can still be cracked.

It wasn't a dig, I just couldn't understand as they are plastic and wont shatter.

This is a good response though and a good enough reason to.
