Wish I would've been able to, but I was on my arse sliding forward before I knew what was going on. Just glad I didn't knock my girl of her bike.
The bike itself is pretty borked, probably beyond economical repair. Now only if the transporter would get his act together and get it to my dealer for an appraisal before they close shop for the holidays, that would be ace...

This is one way to f*ck up your bike. Had my first off last sunday... Was riding behind me girlfriend and didn't notice she was slowing down for a side street. Once I did, I grabbed way to much front brake. Next thing I know, I'm on my arse with the bike on my right leg.
Luckily insured all risk. Leg is a bit bruised, but nothing more than that.

Well... That's broken by Erik Hendrikx, on Flickr
That's worrying, I did something similar but did a stoppie on my GSXR, released the front brake and the back wheel came down. No idea how I held it together and carried on riding as if nothing had happened.
Why is it worrying? You both used your brakes completely differently. I often have the back wheel in the air on track and sometimes on the road if I need to brake much harder than first thought. Grabbing the front brake will have most riders on the floor though.

cheers steve, really appreciate it.

I'm having a look at the linkage for the 675 but I cant find any of an 06 for sale.
Hi Alex - springs do not lose 'springiness' over time. I wouldn't bother replacing it. It would if you compressed it flat for a very long time I think, but otherwise no.

The suspension guy said similar but he said they can. I just got two done on the car and it's remarkable the difference

Then i had a think and thought hmm I'll get one for my weight that looks nice and new and not all rusted to fk.

MTB, if you think this'll fit I can bring it home to FK tonight
I have three and none fit, apparently its a special ohlins one I say it when I dropped another shock off today.

i'll measure the od of it over next few nights and see if it will fit and let you know cheers.

I cant get an ohlins one anywhere.
Be careful - the Öhlins ones vary as well, I suspect according to the diametre and type of the shock preload rings. I've got two in my toolbox and they are fairly different to each other.

I measured the od of the spring and it's 63mm. What one do you think would fit.

63mm sounds a bit skinny almost more like it's ID?? In fact I vaguely recall Öhlins spring numbers on their more 'normal' sportsbike stuff is 1063 something to denote this dimension - which would be more interesting to you if you built shocks than the OD.

Fair enough, it'll be better matched to your weight and look nice.

They do not deteriorate (other than rusting and breaking) under normal use though according to my boss, a time served vehicle dynamicist who's knowledge is well proven. I have read conflicting information online about aged springs sagging, but he says it is a common misconception. I will have to do more reading now!

Are the new springs on your car identical brand wise? They may be stiffer. Quite often springs are not the rate they are stamped with - I see it all the time at work, so I calculate the stiffness myself from a couple of measurements.

still never read a write up on your day at Silverstone and how you're finding the new bike. Geniuenly interested. Hope i will managed to get out on track with you at some point this year, but i cant do any of the croft dates, so will need to be cadwell or oulton or donny or somewhere.

Everyone says different. The suspension guy did try to say look you don't need one. So I went ok don't bother.

Then my weight was mentioned, yeah you'll need a new spring.

I dunno but the rust looked st.

The 63mm I measured is where the tooth for spanner would sit in the teeth. Anyway I called up Harris they're sending me two for 16 quid to fit a ttx.

I normally just tighten the top up with one spanner but didn't want to seem like a cowboy on the phone laugh

Try leaning it over further to get rid of the track balling.

Keeps reminding me of a clowns haircut.

I don't ride fast enough on the road to get rid of the scuffing, the tyre was One of Fleegles from his 05 R1.

Silly old goat need to learn how to set suspension up.

It was a good couple of days Neil, first class hotel, plenty of classes on the first covering all aspects of the bike and then the whole 2nd day on track.

The bike feels great, it turns really quickly and is stable when its lent over, Simon and Garry reckoned they feel slower than the BMW and Kawasaki but neither can match it on corner exit. I just need to rebuild my confidence and forget the fact its a brand new bike.

I have been running it on Aky's old Dunlops KR 108 slicks (I have new ones in the loft) until I feel I am ready to start spanking it. Running on old rear slicks is helping me understand and trust the electronics, it is impossible to make it step out in the higher settings, the bike just makes a flat cracking and popping sound and will not let you have power until youre nearly upright.

Toots and Stu were watching at Croft last week and they said they could hear those sounds going into the complex and onto the start/finish straight, Kev, one of the Marshals came to see us at dinner time and said my bike was making a lot of popping and drrrrzzzzzz sounds exiting the chicane towards Tower, Aky's with having new tyres wasn't, (we are both running the same electronic wise) sic.

We are both having trouble with the angle of the bars giving us bad cramp between the forefinger and thumbs so we have both just bought a set of adjustable bars, oh, and the steering damper is wk at Croft.

I am really happy with it.

I've had a good look at that tyre. No way was that mine. For marbles to get stuck that far over you have to lean a bit. I'm Victor Vertical
