Cheers...I think it'll be a lot of fun, ive just spent a quality half an hour on eBay getting some bits for it..I had an SE Silver Jubilee Model in 1977 when I was 10...Unknown to me at the time, my Mum threw it away around 15 years ago, looking on eBay now it would be worth around £3,000...mental..
That looks like a mark 2 version, from memory the mark 1 had a car style gear knob and adjustable handlebars. I skipped the Chopper and went straight from my Chipper to a Hustler!
Hmm you could be right I do remember one of my mates had a yellow one with a car style gear knob on it ? But I don't think mine was much newer and had the t style on it. Maybe they changed them before the mark 2 ? Looks to have original tyres on it with the red pinstripe on the walls. Give a good strip and clean and maybe a re-chrome of some of the parts and you'd have a very tidy bike indeed. I progressed to a chopper from a Tomahawk smile
I remember a lad in our street had a Mk 1 version in Mustard yellow, I'm sure from memory it also had a taller sissy bar.

A very quiet scene to be had at a well known North Yorkshire spot , normally mobbed at 2pm on a dry Sunday ...
Looks like people have wrapped it up for the year up there , great 'cos the roads are clear and getting served isn't 20 mins of a job ....
Dave ( Jazoli ) and a pair of feet and hands joined me for a good run today and bumped into Greg - John BN and McKeans's track mate - last saw him leading the whole crew around Jerez this year ... don't say I told you boys but he was minus a brake lever on his Explorer , little topple in the scrub doing a bit of off-roading off the beaten track - he was very jolly as it did nothing else to the bike at all !
Top day . smile

Looking forward to breaking it down for that strip and clean up, as you correctly say, quite a few differences between the Mk 1 and 2 but it was a Mk2 I had and this 1973 bike ticks the boxes on originality and price.

I went straight to another Raleigh after the Chopper, one of many several burners, Tuff burner with the Skyways I think.

My brother sent me these pics a couple of months back in the Summer, he has bought a Hutch BMX but the legend that was Bob Haro was also at the event...I wouldnt have minded any of these beauties.

I very very nearly ran out of fuel, only put a bit in at the last fuel stop as I thought I was going home and the bike parked/sold until it was decided we should stay out a bit longer, when I went back to the little garage in the village it didn't have any petrol left, the garage owner somehow managed to get about a litre from the pump, which was just enough to get me the 10 miles or so up the road to Clitheroe, It was a very slow ride over the big hill and a coast down the other side, the bike had zero fuel in it when I got to the co-op garage,

Bloody cold on the way home, and dark, I usually use my lid with clear visor and internal sun visor but today I thought a dark visor was just the ticket, flies, rain and dark skies made the hour from Clitheroe interesting biggrin

All done for the year now, its been a quiet one this year but no-one died with only a couple of minor mishaps along the way.

Pic from today courtesy of hebegb of Loon and myself

Was a tough one. I had a few mates race there. One of them Steve Bixby got a top 15

Not bad considering he's about my age (35) and still cutting it with guys 10-15 years younger

That might even be a later Mk2. I can remember 3 types of the original chopper prior to the more recently released 2 piece seat/twistgrip change model.

Early ones had car type gear knob and rounded top sissy bar.

Next model had the screw through gear knob, can't remember if sissy bar was then round or squared off (eta still round) but the rear 'down tubes' were straight.

The final model definitely had the squared of sissy bar but the rear down tubes were curved as per the pic in this thread.

There were other changes too like the rack & later ones had a 1 piece stem/handlebars (earlier ones could be laid back).

Never had a Chopper but did have it's little brother, a Tomahawk!!

After my Indian test ride last week I have this coming in a few weeks. Traded the Hammer in after 6 years which is the longest I've ever owned a bike I'll be sorry to see it go

Very nice smile Must be Indian day today.

So...

What's in the box?
(that I picked up at Arlen Ness in March!)

Oooh. 3 little boxes, a bag of bolts, a gasket and a reflash card.

...and what's in the little boxes?

a set of Stage 2 cams smile

And at last the fitting tool is available in the UK to do the swap without dropping the motor.

It revs a bit better with a bit more poke top-end, if a 5500rpm red line can ever be considered 'top end'. But no loss in the massive torque, which is nice.

Not much to see, but it sounds pretty good if you like that sort of thing, which I do.
Here's a soundclip at 750rpm idle, and not a potato in sight (or earshot) wink

It's my first 'big' bike and I'm absolutely loving it. Just done 600 miles in 2 days and it performed flawlessly.
