Looks like a Hernda chain adjuster. Am I right?
Yep, mid-late 90s blade in shonky Castrol frock. Back wheel spokes another giveaway. I'm ashamed to say I can't pick the model designation but this morning is the first time I paid it much attention.
96-99 model Fireblade judging by the confusing chain adjusters - from memory they don't tension the chain by turning the direction you expect.

So mid-late 90s then, would you say? hehe

Got back late this afternoon as it was getting dark and snapped this picture on the drive under the sodium street lights.

I spent about ten minutes seeing if toilet cleaner would work on my downpipes. It did. I got bored, I'll do it better when the radiator is off but I got sections spotless.

Obviously autosol will do the Same job and probably better but for a quid ok to start with.

Not seen that one before! cant argue its much better and germ free!

Autosol wouldnt have touched that I dont think , may have much more of a fighting chance (with some scotchbrite pad) now the acid has done its job..

Found replacement for the GSX-R1000, with my £2,000 max budget ive expectedly seen some real howlers and 1 or 2 possible ringers, a 2 grand bike soon becomes a 2.5-3k bike if new tyres, chains/sprockets , a service and knackered suspension are thrown into the mix.

Id limited it down to a more neck friendly early Fazer 1000,VFR750/800, Firestorm or first gen Speed Triple, I did also consider a 1200 Bandit but after a test ride, I was quickly reminded how poorly they handled.

All the Fazer 1000s I looked at where in poor condition and very softly sprung..and all (supposedly)the decent ones way over my asking price, Speed Triple went out of the window when I read about the issues around the early bikes and the VFRs I viewed where all high miles and whilst im sure they have plenty more left in them engine wise, everything else was goosed and felt it..

Whilst im not overly keen on the colour of my new Firestorm, they do ride nice and whilst they only have (older) 600 levels of power, the torque makes the bike much nicer to use than a 600.

I can only describe them as a V twin VFR800, with all that means good and bad, I detest the poxy aftermarket undertray so an OE one will be found to sort that, the bike has a documented service history & bills on all the right things inc a recent carb strip and new tyres, is complete with all the keys, docs, books, the owner was a gent to deal with and I ended up with a new Renntec top box and rack to match thrown in(which I would have had to buy).

With 6,500 miles on a 2002 bike and in my budget,im hoping it will prove to be a good buy it currently appears.

cloud9 lurve Firestorms for the road! I've had three and I've done a deal on a 4th (just need to pick it up).

I think the pale yellow ones are the revised ones - different clocks, tank & airbox lid.

They just 'need' (as people like to say) a Hyperpro fork kit for the soft front end and a K&N filter to lean them out on the cruise to sort out the fuel economy.

I think they had the larger tank fitted from 2001 Pete so all good on that front, will be useful when we head over to France, it is a metallic Yellow, the earlier bike was a flat yellow, so i was told by the owner.

Noted re the fork kit and K&N filter Moto T.....you must rate them to be on a fourth! anything major broke on any of them?

That Firestorm looks lovely, bar the undertray which you've already said you're changing, I think the exposed mechanical parts actually look really nice on these bikes. I bet it's a great road bike with all that torque, shame about the fuel consumption but the money you can't really complain. Have fun with it.

Still got a video from me pratting around the Nürburgring with my first one.

https://youtu.be/SJgDZW7y2nE

That one bent some valves when the front camchain tensioner failed which is a recognised weakness - it wouldn't hurt to put a new one on the front cylinder (it's only normally the front cylinder). I repaired it but then went a weird few years of yo-yo-ing between Firestorms (as perfect road bikes) and sporty stuff more suitable for track fun.

I shook hands on the latest one about 6 months ago but it's stood for at least 8 years after being cannibalised for parts so it's going to be a bit of a project but at 200 quid I couldn't stop myself! It's spread over about 3 buildings in about a dozen boxes so I need to build up the enthusiasm.
