It's for data logging the fork travel / position

Thanks for the info that's something I can put right to the back of my knowledge base as I will never be good enough to warrant a bike that needs that type of capability

Kooler Honda 58 Tribute

I've no idea the significance of this, but that is gorgeous (and I'm a sports bike man).

ETA: Nevermind, just realised!

All of those bikes look amazing, but i am not convinced by the Brough!

Really looking forward to the bike show next week at the NEC.

Great find Podman, i managed to sell my wifes VTR for £1600 and that had 17K miles on it. I must admit after riding my K2 i never really struck a bond with the VTR, It felt really heavy and by no means as sure footed at the GSXR.

Found replacement for the GSX-R1000, with my £2,000 max budget ive expectedly seen some real howlers and 1 or 2 possible ringers, a 2 grand bike soon becomes a 2.5-3k bike if new tyres, chains/sprockets , a service and knackered suspension are thrown into the mix.

Id limited it down to a more neck friendly early Fazer 1000,VFR750/800, Firestorm or first gen Speed Triple, I did also consider a 1200 Bandit but after a test ride, I was quickly reminded how poorly they handled.

All the Fazer 1000s I looked at where in poor condition and very softly sprung..and all (supposedly)the decent ones way over my asking price, Speed Triple went out of the window when I read about the issues around the early bikes and the VFRs I viewed where all high miles and whilst im sure they have plenty more left in them engine wise, everything else was goosed and felt it..

Whilst im not overly keen on the colour of my new Firestorm, they do ride nice and whilst they only have (older) 600 levels of power, the torque makes the bike much nicer to use than a 600.

I can only describe them as a V twin VFR800, with all that means good and bad, I detest the poxy aftermarket undertray so an OE one will be found to sort that, the bike has a documented service history & bills on all the right things inc a recent carb strip and new tyres, is complete with all the keys, docs, books, the owner was a gent to deal with and I ended up with a new Renntec top box and rack to match thrown in(which I would have had to buy).

With 6,500 miles on a 2002 bike and in my budget,im hoping it will prove to be a good buy it currently appears.

Yellow screen appearing on eBay soon!

Three of us are going next Wednesday, always a good day out, plus we finish off with a Bhuna in Solihull on the way home.

Still got a video from me pratting around the Nürburgring with my first one.

https://youtu.be/SJgDZW7y2nE

That one bent some valves when the front camchain tensioner failed which is a recognised weakness - it wouldn't hurt to put a new one on the front cylinder (it's only normally the front cylinder). I repaired it but then went a weird few years of yo-yo-ing between Firestorms (as perfect road bikes) and sporty stuff more suitable for track fun.

I shook hands on the latest one about 6 months ago but it's stood for at least 8 years after being cannibalised for parts so it's going to be a bit of a project but at 200 quid I couldn't stop myself! It's spread over about 3 buildings in about a dozen boxes so I need to build up the enthusiasm.
Sound advice, enjoyed that vid, I take it you've been around there a few times, swift n smooth.

Good luck with your project, £200 has to be a major bargain!

You may be able to help me here, the bike ive bought is a 2002 model but today it dawned on me it had no HISS fitted, which I thought they all had from 2001?

Its a UK bike, maybe a late registered model (with a 16l tank!) as the yoke/ignition barrel defo do not have the bulky HISS casting around the top yoke as Mrs Ps 2001 CBR600 has..pic below.

Thanks.

Of all the 'reimaginings' of classing bikes - Triumph with the Bonnie, Norton, Indian etc., the Brough is to my eyes really the only one that totally misses the mark, and an ugly SOB to boot. I don't know what the actual V-angle of the original motor was, but I'm guessing something just over 45 degrees. The motor was a significant part of the original bike's character with a 'tight' V. This new thing with the gangly 90 degree V and fresh-air in between shares absolutely no visual DNA from the original.

You got me there. The clocks look like early ones - later ones had the tacho taking 'a bite' / overlapping the speedo. Not sure whether they rolled out the HISS system across all models in one year?

Easiest way of answering it is to wander into Honda dealer and ask the bloke on the parts counter - he'll be stupendously bored this time of year. Make a note of your 17 digit chassis no that will start JH2SC....... and the sticker on the subframe under the seat - this will be specification, country and colour code.

I prefer the earlier bike despite the smaller tank - they're a bit more lively somehow. If you wonder what I'm doing at the end of the Ring video the answer is: running out of fuel! Normal road use I could often get 115 / 120 miles before the light came on but thrashing it round there it was down at 75 miles and won't make a lap with the light on. It only takes just over 15 litres from bone dry.

Been at the bike shop tonight doing stuff and uncovered a few more boxes of the £200 Firestorm - even less enthusiastic than before!!

No flipping idea John! This was back in the era of carrying the recording camera unit in a bum bag and running a separate 'lipstick' camera gaffa taped to your lid, a separate microphone (and it's little 4 pack of AA's) with wires all over the bloody place.

Found the answer via the Firestorm forum last night, its a 1999 bike registered in 2002, tank range wont be a problem in the UK...and hopefully not in Europe!

Keep us updated with your progress.
