Im looking forward to Grahames report.
The first time on a quick off road bike is interesting to say the least!
He needs to make sure he types it the same day or the day after otherwise, the day after that, he wont be able to move!! 48 hours after is the worst! lol

I got made redundant on Monday which isn't ideal but it has given me time to start refreshing my pipes. Only done the cans so far, I think they look much fresher with a good polish up and new stickers. Link pipes and headers next.

What did you polish with?

I keep thinking about taking my headers off and cleaning them up properly. But then I just ride it.

I used a garryflex block after someone recommended it on here. Then just went over them with a bit of Meguiars metal polish. If I'm honest I preferred the slightly dull look the titanium had before but this has taken any little scratches out and they'll return to the original colour after a few runs.

That's the spirit mate, get made redundant and get straight out in the shed to polish exhausts while other tts are at work lol. I like your style, I am self (un) employed so live life month my month .

New bike bought last week, I don't need or want a 125 but it was a hundred quid, had one previous owner with 3500 miles on it, so it had to be bought.

Needs locks and battery and that's it, I'll use it for the NW rideouts, should keep up no problem.

..went to party last night and this was in the hallway..spent much of the party on the googling Raleigh Choppers, took it for a spin down the road, found the owner and ended up taking it away..best party been to for a long time!

Some weeks later and ive 95% finished of the Chopper resto, along the way finding out it was built in Nottingham August 1977, frame and hub match no less..biggrin

Few pics to give you an idea what it started off like.

Rattle can alloy paint EVERYWHERE that was originally chromed, overspray all over the crank/frame/tyres/seat/brakes etc etc. Some brackets broken away too.

The chrome was scuffed in places and far from pristine underneath all that (protective perhaps) paint but after a going over with paint remover, carb cleaner, fine scotchbrite pads and autosol, its all come up pretty good, wheels are not that great but to make the chrome A1 would require several more hundred pounds which I cant justify, it still shows signs of its previous life, which I like.

The frame was pretty horrendous , it was hand painted with a household paint, with it and the graphics all peeling away.

I really like the Ultra Violet scheme, the first chopper I rode (aged 9!)was this colour and its so 70s, so I dropped it off to a specialist and had it blasted and repainted with new graphics, picked it up on Thursday, looks cracking eh?

The seat was in really bad shape too, with the base also needing straightening.

Chap who down the frame, also did the seat repair, using the original seat strap .

Earlier today, I started off with this.

...its now largely together.

Few jobs and smaller parts required to finish it off and to but its looking ship shape now.

Hey Bryan, I got my Raleigh Chopper Christmas 1976, can you guess what colour mine was?

That colour you've had yours done was for the 5 speed version I'm sure, I can still remember what the warning sign said on the back of the seat.

I can't tell you how many front end crashes I had on mine, they had interesting handling.

Im guessing you had what they call a Fizzy Lemon paint scheme John?!

Not the most stable of things I remember, ill fit a steering damper maybe..biggrin.I managed to get knocked off mine (my fault of course) by a Redifusion van and ,as I remember it then and now, the handlebars hit the bonnet of the van and skittled me down the road but the van didnt touch me, very lucky.

The poor driver took me home with the bike in the back where my Mum gave me a major blasting as I was supposed to me playing in the local park but was around 4 miles away after cycling through the town to see a mate...I must have only been 10 or 11.

Definitely fitted wrong.

The two tabs go up inside the hole in the fork crown.
