-4oC , clear blue sky, just about dry roads and a fun 30 minute blast in the Swiss mountains (hills actually) before my fingers got cold! Happy New Year!

So I found a couple of photos in the family archives of relatives on bikes back in the day. Can the knowledgeable work out what the bikes were?

My uncle sitting on presumably my Grandpa's bike.

Not even sure who this is, let alone what they are sitting on!
The side valve single is a BSA. EDIT: BSA M35?

I think the second pic is an early BSA A7, the original Val Page design rather than the Bert Hopwood A10/A7.

Thanks gareth, having done a search for those models the internet has come up with pictures that seem to confirm your choices.

Both owned from new, one for 17 years, one for 17 months. Kawasaki has done c80k miles not sure the GIXER will get that high!

Good going, I would say it should the GSXR should last just as long, ive seen one or two GSXRs with more than that mileage on them and more, IIRC theres is or was a K6 1000 used by a courier with over 100k on it.

Nice pair of bikes anyway.

Best ride of my life! I cannot explain the feeling of taking on these canyons in the middle of a crispy sunny day with virtually nobody else on the road. This will get addictive..

Nice one! I was going to take a trip via that route in November, but ended up going from the 1 at San Luis Obispo to Bakersfield to a place called Ridgecrest. A little further up from there. Some absolutely stunning roads when you get out of the LA area too. Isnt the 33 from Ojai supposed to be fantastic?

Oh and hi from another Brit, but in Northern California....

spotted on another forum this strange tyre ware on a H2R and are Dunlop GPA Pro medium compound in the US. And Dunlop are looking into why they have worn like this as they feel it may be the power at the rear wheel

What do you lot think. from all accounts the tyres where new before the trackday this week

The wear is only like this on the left side of the tyre

Tyre pressures, suspension pump, oscillating TC due to incorrect calibration.

It's bike set up or pressure related not tyre construction.

What's with those weird lateral tread lines on the edge of the tyre. Wouldn't fancy that at all. Agree that the wear is down to bike set up, although those tread lines won't help when you're opening the throttle on the way out of a corner / trying to carry good corner speed.

unless the vertical sipes are causing a loss of traction, the rear unloads and the tyres contact patch is reduced.
Seems odd that the sipes would offer such a large area of non contact through the rotation of the wheel. Each sipe seems to rob the contact patch of a fair %age each time one comes around
Difficult to understand the logic with those

From the guy with the bike

[quote]I sent these images to the Dunlop distributer where I bought them (this distributer supplies all the spec tires for MotoAmerica races). After a couple days he called me back and said that neither he nor Dunlop reps up the ranks have ever seen tire wear like this. They are speculating from the pics that the HP to the rear wheel was deforming or changing the contact patch to the pavement and resulted in parts of the tire not getting wear.. or at least that’s what little I got out of the explanation on the phone. They’ve asked me to ship the tire to Dunlop in Buffalo so they can cut into it for further examination

Still not convinced that it's anything more than user error, although the edge tread is still baffling me as to why a tyre would be designed with it. The thing about the Internet is that someone can say anything happened and there's no way to prove / disprove it. Dunlop are unlikely to say that the power of a bike is too much for their tyres, especially if they're the tyre supplier for US Superbikes.
