Well, it seems to be working now. I took it to work this morning and it seemed nice enough, very cold outside but great to be back on a bike. It's got such a striking, solid feel to it. It feels so low and wide compared to the other bikes I've sat on, but it's a great 160mph armchair. The steering doesn't feel super quick or flighty, but it's by far the most responsive bike I've ridden. In that sense, it works beautifully on the road as it turns in nicely, but doesn't feel twitchy or naff. Once you're banked in, it feels like riding a laser guided missile. I've got stloads of learning to do in terms of getting to know the bike and riding it better, but it should at least be fun.

With regards to the temperature readout, it stayed low today, but the engine felt warm enough and the fan flicked on for about 10 seconds as I switched it off after leaving it at idle for while as I faffed around. So hopefully it's all fixed up, and ready to enjoy.

Because you fell off and broke it and it takes time to fix crash damage.

My dad's really needing to give up biking. Theres no room in his garage for me to work on my bikes. Takes about an hour to horse the bikes out and put everything back. It's a fking joke.

I prefer to just break them for parts after I crash them. It's just easier to take things apart with a hammer than it is to refit them.

Got one of those brake bleeding kits you recommend. My God why didn't I spend £15 on this before. Not a drip of fluid anywhere and done in 10 mins.

True to form I knocked over my can of irn bru soaking everywhere mind you.

Pah. You had to use a hammer?
Mine blew itself apart in the gravel trap, now that is much easier!!

Love these, Stalkers SRAD was a dream bike for me, till it went pop round Donington in the last race of the championship, when all it had to do was finish!!!

To me, this is what old biking is all about. A couple of weekends ago my brother snapped a clutch cable. He caught up with me and told me, so I caught my old man up and we turned around and went back to the last junction to find him.

By then someone else had stopped, and a cable kit was out. Sadly all the solderless nipples were too big for the 1928 levers, so we asked a lady if we could leave his bike in her garden.

Luckily the backup truck arrived so we stuck his bike in that and he got a lift on the back of the chap who's Triumph is standing there (an ex-sidecar racer) to get another bike and catch us up.

My bike was laying In the hedge in the background.

Old bikes may be more of a challenge but the challenge is amazing, but eryone chips in, helps out and does what needs doing smile

It's really good that there are enough of you dedicated nutters around to keep the bikes on the road. It's very easy to buy old bikes and leave them in the corner of the garage as an investment buts it's a whole different ball for you guys who insist on riding them! clap

They're just such good fun, if you like mechanical things. Yeah they break and you get oily and inevitably cut yourself fixing them with a pair of pliers on the roadside, but fuel, air and a spark is all that era of bike desire. Give them those things and one way or another, they'll get you home smile

I'm not in your league but I do have two bikes with points and for reasons I don't understand myself I can't bring myself to swap them out for electronic ignition. I should really get a life and move on hehe

In what way does "swapping out" actually differ to swapping - I remain confused on this front to this day , being "British", y'all...?

Didn't want to derail the 8 hour thread so sticking this in here.

If I had the money/talent to build a special it would be an endurance rep, love the look of them, can't quite put my finger on why.

New track bike - yeah. Off to buy a hoody.
Very nice, I hope you have great fun on it but I also hope you're not going to be any faster than you were on that old R1 you had ya bugger.
Well I can confirm I'm no faster on this than my old R1 - it wouldn't surprise me if I was 10 secs a lap slower!

Wet day at Mallory yesterday

and I can also confirm it is absolute agony to ride. The foam seat to high rearsets distance mean you a scrunched up like a little frog and my knees cannae take it, I cannot move around or feel anything other than pain. To be fair I have had a fair few operations on them. Dropped them down to their lowest setting and that helped a tiny bit but I really need the footrests going down and back a few inches not mm.

Only did about 60 miles due to red flags, oil on circuit and bks-to-this type early finish but the thought of riding this for 450 to 500 miles over 3 days on a foreign trackday in its current set up is comical.

On the plus side - what a flippin' engine! Riding it like a true point and squirt dhead it would happily do the whole circuit (incl. hairpin) in just 3rd and 4th.

Next outing at Snetterton with PHBB massive.
