Saga called again today. I've got to submit receipts for leathers/helmet etc. Told them what you said that i don't want a loan bike but would appreciate it being written off and full value etc. They are coming to look at he bike today and see where we go from there. My injury is a separate issue they say as its more serious than a car accident so i've got to leave that to solicitors.
I'm feeling quite good here, as I figured they'd say that about the injury. They're right to as well.

They'll write the bike off.

Does bike insurance work the same way as most car policies i.e. if the vehicle is less than twelve months old and written off it will be replaced with a like for like vehicle or is it a case of just getting market value for it?

You have to be the first owner as well for car insurance, no pre-reg, or ex demonstrators, or anything else that means you're the second owner.

I've not really looked at it with bikes tbh, something says it's not the same though, but I've no idea why. The thing is the only definitive answer is for you to look at your policy booklet. That will tell you.

My bike was a pre reg so no hope of that.

First estimate from Ducati is £12k to fix, bike is worth £14k ish I bet . Waiting on the report from his insurance company estimators.

Really pissed off today. Suns out, it's my day off , and I can't ride. Jeremy Kyle and judge rinder only entertain for so long. It's going to be a long weekend.

Same with bikes. When I binned the 312, I happily remembered the "new for old" clauses, and then unhappily found out they only applied to first owner (first owner failed to test ride, so hated it). Happily stopped arguing value when the poor sod on the other end of the phone pointed out I could have a zero miles pre-reg one for slightly less than his last offer biggrin

Hope you're feeling better today. Cold baths - that's the way forward.

It appears the vehicle side of the claim is nearly sorted as my cheque should be here this week or early next...

Any experience on how long the leathers/helmet bit takes to sort out? As i cant use the helmet i had so i guess im gonna need to buy one sooner rather than later. I have old helmets if its short term use but they over 5 years old if you believe the myths about helmets deteriorating with age.

Tell your solicitors to sort them out as a matter of urgency. I'm assuming you're doing it all via them and not the other side's insurers.

You won't get full whack back for them. The payment will be reduced by wear and tear. This is a legal bit and nothing to do with insurers being tight.

I've spoken to my solicitors and asked them this question and all they said was to buy my replacements and keep my receipts but they couldn't say any time-scale at all...

Then they're st and you should tell them you want it as an interim payment for those specific heads of claim.

Went to look at a mv f3 today which I like. And also a 899. Thought I'd compare insurance.

So I decided to call my broker to ask about cost to insure. The girl on the other end said she can't quote me as I've claimed on my policy. I tried to explain that the other blokes insurance has written off the bike and is paying me out and my underwriter had closed my claim from their point of view. She wouldn't have it and kept saying I might have to cancel my years policy which finishes next month and take out a new one. I'd rather just wait until end of August and re-insure with a different company if that's the case. She's going to call the underwriter she says but the likely outcome is I can't add a bike or remove my old one. Seems weird as I'm stuck in no mans land if I can't buy another bike. Going to call back tomorrow and try to speak to someone more helpful but it sounds wrong that I can't remove my 1199 and add a 899 or f3 at a lesser retail cost/power etc. it's a multi bike policy if it makes any difference.

She's an idiot. You should be able to swap bikes no problem. You sometimes get issues when the type of bikes being swapped are very different, but that shouldn't be an issue here.

Who's your broker?

Just to clarify she said she couldn't help before I'd even said the bike I wanted. So it wasn't the bike that caused the issue it was that I have a claim open she said?

Yeh I understand that sometimes a underwriter won't cover a 1199 when you've been insured on say a street triple.

It's bikesure.

I'll try again in morning if she doesn't call me first. Told her not to bother calling if she's talking about cancelling my current insurance and having to pay a fee and starting again. It's a pity as I've found them helpful on every other occasion I've rung them over the last 3 or 4 years.
