Frankly I am hardly surprised, I have first had dealings of how utterly hopeless Police Scotland are. But that's a more personal issue.

It's been the norm for years as far as I know. That's why thieves don't carry lids, they can get away. It used to be they'd carry a lid to not get stopped.

As for police being useless, tell me about it.

I cant help but feel how any fellow biker would feel when reading this.

That's a 675 not a 1000cc.

I answered that saying I don't watch TV smile

Basicly neds nick bikes while threatening someone filming them with a hammer & then ride around without lids so plod doesn't chase them.

Oh & plod didn't turn up while the bike was being nicked & gave some sort of excuse about it not being a crime...

Sarah Vesty is almost as useless at spelling as the police are at catching criminals.

Those skinny little mongs don't look like much of a threat, even with a hammer. They'd probably st themselves if someone actually had a go at them.

Unfortunately it's nothing new, those neds in Aberdeen that have been stealing top end motors for last few years had a free reign as well, they were actually bating the cops knowing that they had a no chase policy! But God help you if you are a fully licensed and insured motorist who strays above the limit because you'll feel the full strength of Police Scotland then!! House is an idiot!!

ste.

IMO if the scrote falls off the bike, someone else's bike, helmetless - a situation they have put themselves in, if the law chases and the SCROTE falls off and tts their head, becomes brain damaged, dies, it certainly aint the coppers fault.

Obviously they can't go round ramming bikes but you'd expect some attempt.

So the owner of the bike either gets returned a stolen recovered bike, their pride and joy tainted. OR has to suffer increased premiums and claims. I have no fking tolerance for these aholes at all. If they want to put themselves in a dangerous situation the police should be able to take reasonable action without recourse. To me a copper driving past a clear cut theft is not reasonable action.

Same thing for me as thieves entering someone's home etc. The minute the scum cross the line they've rolled the dice and deserve whatever comes to them. I'd happily wrap a fking golf club round any s face who goes near my house or garage.

Pretty sure this is UK wide and has been for some time?

So next time you get lit up by blues, can you just throw your lid in the ditch and ride for the hills?

I only found out about the no lid - no chase rule last week during that bbc program "The met".

They were addressing the moped crime outbreak in London, and showed 2 youths smash and grab a jewelers store, ride off, then when the cops stared chasing they ditched their lids and the police just let them ride off. I was shocked to say the least eek

How can chasing them in wearing shorts/t-shirt with a lid be ok, but without one not? :/

Surely a little nudge with the car would send a nice message to the scroats. scratchchin

During recent chat with local traffic sgt he confirmed that it's 'force wide' policy to abandon any pursuit of a motorcycle if the rider is not wearing a helmet.....
So all the scrote does is throw his helmet into the bushes and ride off knowing there's no blues following mad

It does seem that bike theft is not a crime in Edinburgh anymore...

Got a great story of seeing a photo of someone about to (try to) steal my bike in Edinburgh last year on Facebook. They didn't get the bike, but I have a lovely pic of them sitting on it grinning for the camera. Sadly I only found the pic after I later sold the bike.
