Warning ! ! !
Cat & fiddle road to macclesfield ! !
There is talk of a farmer purposefully putting diesel on one of the corners .
Stay safe

I'm not sure how true this is but the guy I sit next to at work was telling me about this happening a couple of years ago along with other things earlier in the week.

Has he put some potholes there too?

It's made up. Maybe because someone is bored or they are making excuses for being st at riding.

Aye possibly but tbh I wouldn't be supprised if it was true. I've had one going mental at me last year. I will get my man at work to check it out.

Ment to say I got my helmet sorted, Thanks for the offer :-)

More Internet "must share" type bks

I think a better warning would be:

It's st, don't bother.

The cat and fiddle is a bit like premature sex.

There's loads of hype, it promises to be a great ride but is over just as you get started leaving you unfulfilled and frustrated.

Not that I have a problem keeping it up you understand.

I was up there Tues night and there was no evidence of intentional foul play that I could see, and while I wasn't exactly touring a guy on a 'blade flew past and buggered off so clearly he wasn't too bothered by diesel (or the average speed cameras!). I put this stuff down to internet spam tbh.

Agree on the comments about this road too, I was only using it to get back down to Macc after having a play on the far more challenging A54 from Bosley biggrin It makes a nice little loop..

Im told the cameras don't work on the Macc side of the pub ( not that I want to chance it ) As you say locals are not put off by them, Tbh you can see the wire has been pulled out of them.

We need to get out for a ride.

If there is ever a ride getting up into Northumberland, make the effort and get along on it, it's fantastic. I try not to take it for granted that these amazing roads are on my doorstep. If it's dry tomorrow night, I'll be out doing a 140 mile loop and apart from a short stretch of dual carriageway, if I have to overtake 10 cars I'll be surprised. There is a bit of everything, fast sweepers, some decent straights, jumps for the enthusiastic sorts seguing into a more technical hill climb as we rise out of the Tyne valley and onto the Pennines before a stop for a slash, a chat and then back down the hill and home.

Haha! Reminds me of my nephew who picked up 12 points and a ban (then told them his income so got a four figure fine to boot) for the same camera in Leeds.

His reasoning: "everyone" said it was switched off. Seriously? WTF? "Everyone"? A bloke down the pub? Your mates dad?

that is really. its good if you want a quick blast out or if you take it on the way to the snake pass.

one good thing about it from my point of view when i 1st started riding was that a lot of it is open so you can see that nothings coming in the opposite direction so if you fk up a corner you know you can run on to the other side of the road without going face 1st in to someones windscreen!

Got to agree with you there; there are plenty of roads in that area that are at least as good - and all with the added advantage that all the other bike riders are on the Cat and Fiddle etc.

As a rule I avoid all these biker congregating places - Devils Bridge, Rivington Barn, Squires, Matlock etc etc. For a start they just attract unwanted attention from the police, but I also fail to see the fascination with hanging around drinking mugs of tea and eating crap food while in the company of loads of shaven headed, rotund blokes in one piece leathers. Maybe it's just me, but I don't get it.

Agree on both accounts. Cat & Fiddle just appeared to be a windy little road which appeals to the low speed knee down posers - very few fast sweeping bits. Preferred the Snake Pass.

There are indeed far better roads than the Cat in that area, I was only up there for a gentle Tues evening pootle and enjoying the blue skies/warm evening. I live near Oulton so I tend to head for Wales or Shropshire anyway, Derbyshire hates bikers more than most places so they don't get my custom as a rule. Agree on the meeting spots too, fine for a quick brew and see some bikes but I'd rather be on the bike!

Like I said I wouldn't chance it. Plenty of people do.
