I was at Gilmerton and some wee scrote was on a bike in a hoody tearing up from Polton followed by the filth.

The copper was hopelessly slow and lost him as he turned right immediately after the small roundabout, and went screaming past.

I told him, "LEFT, over there". The copper screams away again, and turns? Right. fking idiot. We don't have a bloody hope.

Next time I can't help but think it would be a terrible shame if a member of the public was to pull out in front of these stolen bikes ridden by young lads of limited experience and no helmets.

I'm also still awaiting the DNA results from some bd who stole my car in October 2014. Apparently despite me catching him that wasn't sufficient evidence.

Real world though, the wee st would be dead or paralysed and you would get convicted. And no doubt a Facebook/ Just Giving page would be set up for all the other mongs to donate to for poor wee Calvin-Leeroy.

Sorry to hear this sort of rampant crime is going on in the area. Been up to Edinburgh a few times and really enjoyed the city, meeting the friendly people and so on.

However,

It might be best to leave Scotland and come to England where crime rates are much lower! biggrin

Adopting the idea of making it as hard as possible for them to take it really is the best way to go in my opinion. Some say don't make it obvious something is in there by keeping it simple but most times they'll know its there. There is so much you can do. Alarms, window bar, ground anchors, security posts, trip wires. My shed alarm went off a few nights ago and I'm almost positive it was someone looking through the window and set the IR sensor off as there has been a few bit of break in's in my area lately. While on night shift I've had chance to look at some more security ideas I plan on adding when I get home from being away. Some will say why should you spend the money on protecting what's yours but this is the world we live in. I have no problem is spending a few hundred quid on things that will protect something I've spent over 10k on.

It's not the world we live in, it sounds like this bit of Scotland is just a dump full of petty crooks. Even when I parked my bike in London, I didn't use any excessive levels of security.

Well it is the world we live in isn't it. Crime happens anywhere anytime not just in some dump in Scotland. Just because your bike hasn't been nicked in London doesn't it wont be. Same as mine hasn't been nicked off a quiet housing estate full of old people but that doesn't stop people trying.

Not sure how pricey it is, but these garage doors seem to be recommended for high security: http://www.thegaragedoorcentre.co.uk/silveloxgarag...

If you change your garage door for a high security one and secure any other doors or windows properly then you're mostly there aren't you?

It's not just the bikes, though. In my case they stole pretty well everything I owned that was car/bike related; they must have been walking in and out for ages carrying armfuls of stuff - drills, sockets sets, tools, huge trolley jack, boat engine (not insured, ££££££££££££££sssss) - the list is endless. Took over 20 years to buy it all and a couple of hours to lose it.

Interestingly the OHs insurance has gone down this year, despite losing NCB. It's cheaper this time for Fully Comp on her R1 than it was last year for TPFT. Eh?

Ok... I don't think I've posted about this before but here goes.

I spend quite a bit of time in Edinburgh, very near Pilton. For a while myself and a neighbour both parked our bikes in an alley off the road and right outside our windows. In the space of 3 years, he had 2 bikes stolen (A divvie and a CB500) from there, my bike (an ER6f at the time) appeared to be left untouched.

However, while parked in Leith one afternoon last year some toerag attempted to steal my ER6, only managing to badly bend the handlebar. The really frustrating part is, 2 weeks after I traded it this year, I found a profile pic on facebook of a youth sitting on MY bike, definitely my bike, in definitely the same exact spot I was parked in the day the attempted theft occurred. If anyone wants a link to it PM me. It's likely it was taken right before he tried to steal it. He and his pals have loads of pics of them with bikes that clearly aren't theirs. They must be known to the police but clearly nothing is being done, or can be done.

Incidentally a couple of months ago I heard the buzz of some small bikes outside my window and found a group of 3 or 4 youths on a couple of small bikes messing about, probably looking to see if they could find anything they could nick. As soon as I looked out they scarpered but they were probably looking at the monster. I didn't call the police as I didn't see any point...

I don't think it matters where in Edinburgh you are right now, if you have a bike that can be stolen by joyriders there's a good chance it will be. The best thing to do is to make it as difficult as possible for them. I am led to believe though that the more modern immobilisers where the keys have RFID in them should make them a lot harder to get started.

Do what my mates Dad did, someone stole something from his shed, I think a hedge trimmer.

So he went without sleep for the next month or so.

He'd go to work, eat, then sleep from say 6-11 after that he spent the rest of the night staring out the window downstairs waiting for the to re-appear.

He did, it didn't end well apparently. He was in the navy and is a bit mad.

short of that theres fk all you can do, if your garage isn't onto your house then you are snookered if the area is rife. Setting up a neighbourhood watch area etc would help but only if the police act, which they wont as they are useless incompetent jobs worth s

it took them 3 days to go and look at a car crash, whilst investigating their disappearance.

this is what you are up against.
