So looking at my mostly grimey Daytona it tells a story of neglect, however that is just skin deep as the bike is FSH and very well maintained.

The ingrained grime is getting on my tits to be honest.

So I saw the pressure steam cleaner on Amazon for £50. I was wondering if a good steam clean keeping away from electics may just be the ticket?

Will it end in tears? Should just just accept my winter/london park anywhere bike is what it is?

Don't think the heat will do the finish much good. Have you tried some good APC and elbow grease? thumbup

I bought a steam cleaner off eBay a couple of years ago in the hope of effortlessly shifting the grime that had built up on the swingarm / shock...in short, it did nowt! Save your money and just use elbow grease (and some decent cleaning products).

Douse it in SDOC 100 cleaner and go at it with a clean paintbrush. If that doesn't sort it its fecked.

Basic chemistry. 'Like dissolves like', that's why water won't dissolve oil and grease. Not because it's not hot enough. Same goes for the st on your bike.

As mentioned you need a cleaner and elbow grease.

Thanks for confirming chaps. I have already cleaned the bike up a hell of a lot already.

I think the bike will just naturally get cleaner the longer its in my ownership. I cannot reverse the previous wear and corrosion to the ali parts, although it will look a hell of a lot better.

I agree with this comment.
SDOC 100 moves pretty much any layer of st on the bike/car anything that needs to be cleaned.

Muc-Off is a good all-rounder. My 675R was filthy when I got back from the Isle of Man, so I made a good effort getting it spotless again.

I have a tub of this:

That I use on cars, I've made up various dilutions in a bunch of those 99p spray bottles. Didn't use anything stronger than 1:10 in the bike. Sprayed into the awkward and dirtiest areas, used a long, thin cleaning brush to agitate the grime and rinsed with an open hose.

That got rid of 90% of the muck, for the bodywork and easy-to-reach areas I used a quick detailing spray that I had lying around and some microfibre cloths:
