A quick ride on a firey Italian

Pah, this was us nearly at the end of the trip loaded with luggage in the Carcassonnes. c.300 miles a day on pretty bikes. So despite discussing the merits of my GS (because I'm an old hipster caravan owning German ), I'm happy 'touring' on the 1098R which doesn't even take a tailbag (monoposto).
This looks bloody mint.Chipchap said:
With compression bags and sacrificial underwear & socks 30 litres is a lot of storage for 8 days. We had 2 others with us who had more capacity for tools etc.
I would do it again and in fact may just do another in 2016.

It's not the capacity that baffles me - it's wearing a rucsac. Raises your centre of gravity, makes it dangerous to look over your shoulder at speed, or to get off the bike when cornering. I just don't get it. It's the sort of thing numpties on scooters do. Why on earth would you hamper your movement when taking a proper sports bike to the Pyrenees? I would do it again and in fact may just do another in 2016.

I cut around on my RSV4 with my Kriega R25 with zero issues, be it hooning or commuting..

Totally disagree. The Kriega bags don't have any detrimental side effect such as you mention apart from a light reduction in 'life saver' mobility but nothing serious.

I'm with the backpackers on this, I use my kreiga and never feel like I can't move.I cut around on my RSV4 with my Kriega R25 with zero issues, be it hooning or commuting..
I've toured Germany with a tank bag and bag on the pillion seat and I felt totally stuck then. Your chest is on the tank bag so you can't hunker down. I did like that set up for big motorway miles as you could rest your upper body on the tank bag, but for mobility the back pack was miles better.
I used to ride to work with a backpack on all the time. I wouldn't carry anything other than clothes and lunch in a plastic bag. It didn't hinder my lifesavers. The one thing I noticed was that it felt like affected my steering/balance at first. However, if you do the straps up tight, the bag won't move around when you move, and you'll be fine. Perhaps the most noticeable thing about riding with a rucksack was the extra wind noise at higher speed, as it seemed to create turbulence behind your head.

I felt the same until I bought my Kriega. You just don't notice that its there. Being a lardy tt I am impaired more by my fat belly than anything else. I also have impaired movement from my left knee and ankle so tend to be conservative on that side but it never stops me hanging off on right handers. You need to try a Kriega but avoid the R35 unless you are 6' 3" or over as it is very long and will foul the tailpiece.
My F4 312RR is also a monoposto so anything taken needs to be carried by the rider.
