Hi all. I thought I would post a few pics of my new Honda. As you can see it is powered by a sophisticated overhead cam unit (as found in the new Civic). However, it also has an optional 'pedal' mode which can be used independently or to assist the engine when Vtec has not quite kicked in. Power (all 1.3HP of it) is transmitted from the 35cc lump to the rear tyre via a 1" diameter knurled roller. A centrifugal clutch makes riding effortless. The cycle is fitted with front and rear drilled discs for maximum stopping efficiency and a kill switch is fitted for safety reasons. She does about 25mph on a nice flat run and about 50mpg. I got overtaken by some proper cyclists the other day, but on the plus side I did overtake a Harley, so it's not all doom and gloom.

The bike.

The power plant.

Are you serious? I can't quite work out if this is a joke.

It's funny either way,

I'll tell you what isn't a joke - controlling this machine. At minimum I wear a 'Cycle Hut' helmet and a pair of gardening gloves! smile

If you're in the states.. fill yer boots.

I cant help but think Electric would be faster and better for this particular application

Brilliant! biggrin

although its technically a motor vehicle now and you'd probably get torn a new one by the police if they see.

if it can do more than 15 mph unassisted, its a motorbike = licence, MOT, Tax and insurance needed.

Sadly this is true, I can only use her on private land. I knew fitting the engine effectively created a motorbike but I've never heard of the 15mph rule, does this mean if I restrict the engine so I can't do more than 15 then it will be legal to ride on the street?

Here's a bit of light reading - this chap has a Komatsu engine on his bike and a toothed belt drive, and he registered it for road use: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~pattle/nacc/arc0...
