I'm not a naked, muscle bike fan at all... So I have no idea whether XJR's are any good?

I have been offered one fairly cheap from a family friend who is emigrating - I'm quite tempted by the idea of riding it around for a short while then moving it on, making a few beer tokens in the process.

There's plenty for sale on the net, but does anyone know if they're as popular as it would seem? And is it the kind of bike that will be easy to move on? This is the first time I've really looked at them so I don't know if all the ones for sale have been advertised for god knows how long with no buyers!

Last thing I want is to buy it, to then have it poked up my arse for 6 months whilst I struggle to sell it!

Can't answer your question, but my neighbour has one and I've always thought it a handsome machine. Sounds good too.

If you can pick it up cheap do so, then sell next Spring.

Yes there's loads of them around, nice looking bikes, they are ok to ride in a laid back point and squirt type of way, and a nice thing to cruise around on, you should have no trouble selling it on if its cheap enough.

Sounds like you'll fit into BB perfectly. Maybe consider a cruiser smile

I always check out the sold listings on eBay to get an idea of pricing and popularity. If it's tidy and you can pick it up for reasonable money and you get shot whilst the weather is still nice then you should be fine.

They are comfortable cruisers but when you push on a bit they are a bit stogey. I rode a 09 one and found it a pleasent expirience. It still has some get up and go but its old school.

It can wheelie off the the throttle quite well.

Most people with this sort of bike seem to keep them a long time as they do everything quite well, but are fantastic at nothing (except pulling smoothly from 20mph in 6th laugh).

only 5 gears wink

only man called it his 5th gear all day 2 wheeled Bentley.

drop the forks 10mm and fit bridgestone sport touring tyres

Do the exhaust and airbox mods

and they go very well.

I know the Yamyams lack top gear, hence I said this sort of bike.

I was referring to my GSX14's ability in 6th as it's also a muscle bike.

I had one from new in 2013.

Great bike really. Plenty of torque, smooth engine, slick gearchange, extremely comfortable, decent build quality. It even handles fairly well unless you ride very quickly or intend to take it on track.

Grab it.

I'll be buying one next year. They make fantastic cafe racer conversions.

I used to own the blue SP version a few years ago. The only mod I had was changing the fork internals for WP components. It slightly improved the handling and behaviour under braking.

The major downside for me was that it was too confy (yes, I know). To the point where, one day, I almost dozzed off and nearly rammed the car that was braking in front of me.

I would buy another one as a project, and would change the pipes immediately for something louder that could help me stay awake when I ride it wink
