Garage floor recommendations.
Discussion
Moving to a new build house in about 3 months and it has a nice sized single garage which will be for my bikes and tools only, perhaps c16m sq. The options are that I have it tiled when they are in doing the house or perhaps have someone come in and seal the floor and paint it in some sort of industrial floor paint.
Anyone on here have any contacts for the paint and prep ?
For ref tiling it will be around £700 so if paint is around half of that it's a contender.

Will ask him if he does this kind of work and if he will travel that distance.

You can paint it yourself for not a lot if you can be bothered. It doesn't take that long and all the stuff can be bought from wilkinsons/b and q for around 100 quid or less. Depending what state your garage is in already. Sweep it/jet wash it/fill the cracks/use the sealant paint stuff/use the garage floor paint. It goes on super fast and the biggest ball aches waiting for it to dry really.
I did one garage in 2 pack epoxy paint, about £50 a tin, needed 2 tins for 2 coats in 18 x 12ft garage. Its fine, good finish and keeps the dust down, supposed to be damp proof too, time will tell. Not been down a year yet.
The other garage is plastic tiles, much warmer underfoot and to work on, cost about £550 for 19 x 11ft about 5 years ago. Really happy with them, been down 5 years now. Nice to work on and warmer in winter.

Just laid plastic floor tiles down in my new garage, had a painted floor in my last which although looked ok at first, soon began to flake in places, probably poor prep on my part but wasted money anyway.
This one i wanted something to last, and also feel better than painted concrete, tiles are easy to lay, are easily replaced if damaged, and feel better underfoot with an insulating property, just seemed a better solution, until you get to the price.
Popular choice is mototile which for my 20x18ft space was nearly £900 which I baulked at, but I found a local suppler here in brum that did the same product for £500, much better so went with plasfloor,, and it looks great, can have cars and stuff placed on top without deforming as it's used in industrial applications with forklifts moving over it and they survive, so I'm happy with my choice.

I used an acid etch on a power floated floor to both remove any residual laitance and provide a key. A couple of coats of 2 pack epoxy floor paint, and the jobs a good un, with no lifted patches 4 years later.
You may need a sealer as well as a prep. Not sure why you'd ever use something like PVA on concrete though, when the right tool for the job is available at similar prices....

If you want professional advice about prep, the process, etc, speak to Watco (but their prices are quite steep): http://www.watco.co.uk/watco-concrete-floor-paint....

Have a look at the Costco stuff, I've got the packs of foam tile which are ok as they're super cheap and give a softer floor to work on. They can get damaged easily but they're so cheap you just replace them.
I'm in the process of redoing the garage so will probably switch to this stuff also from Costco.
