Top tip. If you decide to change your speakers (because the original ones are frankly st) and then 7 months later the charging system fails, don't expect Schuberth to give a flying fk and honour the warranty despite the actual charging gubbins still being sealed.

Mine was installed by the friendly people at Helmet City when I bought the C3+SRC from them. The sound quality has been superb and far better than my own effort when installing the G9 in my Shoei. The C3+SRC sound quality is as 'spacious' as my normal headphones when listening to music and calls.

You must have weird ears then, the original speakers are utter dog eggs. Tinny, scratchy noise but now much better with Koss headphone speakers.

Shoei do a separate next certain for their lids but I've never tried one. Turbulance under the lid is supposed to be a big noise producer so they should make a big difference, and I think the Schuberth fits a lot closer to my neck than the Shoei did whcih probably makes a difference. My C3 came with a triangular bit that velcros in under the chin piece but I think my chin's too big as I can't get the front shut if it's fitted

So far only Rizzo has pointed out that the reason Schubert's C3Pro flip is their quietest helmet (and the quietest its currently possible to buy) is because the FF mechanism allows it to offer a tighter fit around the neck, cutting out a significant amount of noise.

You just can't do this on a regular FF and comfortably get it on, as anyone with a >Medium head trying to get a Schubert S2 on might have discovered.

I have the Schuberth C3Pro with the SRC thing. Well made, but utterly useless on even a sports tourer (my K1300s) because it comes down so low on your brow. Presses down on top of my glasses slightly too.

And SRC thing is not impressive, and the software for configuring it is utterly pants. And not even written by them, if you have the newer SRC version. You have to battle with the Cardas software

I haven't been spending as much time in BB recently. I've been too busy riding my GS in my all weather suit and flip front lid.... yes really and I have a f*cking beard, its amazing I haven't spontaneously combusted for being such a cliche wker.

Personally I like a flip as do a lot of miles so I'm always stopping to fill up. I also like to open the flip in town for a bit more air.

When did BB stop being somewhere we used to talk about bikes, share information and some light hearted 'banter' and become a forum where people seem intent of ripping each other to pieces?

This is a long thread for a choice of helmet, I think we've established that many of us like flip fronts

I can't bring myself to wear an open face though, I just feel too exposed. I wear glasses too so my eyes stream over about 40mph. I fell off a field bike wearing a cheap open lid aged 13 and have scars on my face, so perhaps that was an early lesson learnt...

Yet I see plenty of people travelling at motorway speeds with a piss pot and just a hanky across their face...admittedly usually on cafe racers, classics and custom style bikes ....I can understand if you have a 4 foot windscreen on a full dress tourer, you have some protection

But, does a hanky or bandanna made of thin cloth take the sting out when a big flying bug hits you at 80mph ? what about a bird strike ? (had a couple of those in recent years)

I reckon every few weeks I get hit by something in the visor and think to myself "thank fook im not wearing open face"

Am I just unlucky ?

2 birdstrikes in recent years I'd say yes you're unlucky. I only know one other person who's ever even had one. Mind you he's also had a deer strike so maybe he's unluckier than you. He also wears a flip front.

I wouldn't wear anything but a SchuberthC3. Saved my life in a serious off.
I really cannot understand why some people buy cheapo Lidl helmets etc. Ahh, I remember. Cheap head - cheap helmet.

The flip is good for glasses wearers, plus the inbuilt visor etc etc

You sound unlucky. I've toured europe in an open face lid & the worst I got was dirty in Italian tunnels. Oddly enough on the same trip my missus (wearing a full face lid) got a huge bug fly into it & get jammed up her nostril! Took lots of antibiotics & a day off the bike in Prague to get the swelling down.

Schuberth do one similar to that but with a chin bar. Again it looks weird but if anyone fancies an open face but is put off by the thought of landing on their chin it could make sense

The bonus of a flip front is that it's both an open face and full face... a lot of people on here are put off by the open face element, but most of us with flip fronts only have it open when stationary or off of the bike.

One of the Shark ones have a chin piece that dissapears round the back and can be used as an open face, but I believe most standard flip fronts aren't certified for use as an open face helmet. As said above most of us with flips only have them up when stationary or at very low speed. If I've flipped mine up when stopped at traffic lights I'll usually pull away with it up and then flick it down as soon as I've let go of the clutch.

The Shark Evoline is the one that rotates all the way and is homologated/CE tested in both jet and full face positions. Technically some of the flip fronts should not be worn at speed when open if they are not tested in that position, but no-one seems to care/notice

Ive been wearing the Evoline versions 2 and 3 for a few years now and really like them. Certainly the most practical and versatile helmet ive had over the last 30 years. They look a bit big/wide due to the mechanism, but the upsides outweigh the downsides. Im not riding around wondering "do i look cool in this helmet" otherwise Id have one of those custom piss pots with iridium fish bowl visor and be riding a cafe racer
