Glad you're ok, sounds nasty. I had a fairly similar highside about 10 Years ago when a Firebblade spat me off on a roundabout, landed on my head and shoulder like you but unfortunately I wasn't as lucky and absolutely smashed my collarbone to pieces. I was wearing a textile jacket at the time not leathers though so maybe they didn't absorb as much of the impact.
Hope the bike is fixed soon.

It's all been said already, the bike is a definite write off. Throw the leathers in the bin and buy some new ones. The protection they offer, especially the shoulders has improved massively in recent years. Leather needs looking after to retain its protective properties too amd ten year old leathers will have lost quite a bit of that protection anyway, ditto the stitching may be a lot weaker than when new.

Forgot to say, the gear lever will have been bent by your foot as you were thrown over the top of the bike.

Thanks for the info everyone. I have to say I was surprised at the state of the shoulder of the leathers too, but the road surface really is cheese grater like there, which goes some way to explaining why they were so torn up.

I'm quite sad to think that the bike might be a write-off, but from what you guys who have experience in this field have said, it looks like it might be the case. frown

It will be the case. Have a look at the damaged parts online and ring a dealer and ask them how much the replacement parts are (just pick the biggest ones eg fairings, tank and covers), as MYB says, it'll make your eyes water.

I managed to ride it for half a mile until the oil light came on and it rode ok (apart from the bits hanging off) during that brief ride. I was adhering to the old saying about getting straight back on the horse. smile

To be fair it's probably the most mashed up a bike has been when I've ridden it, but I'm sure it wouldn't take much to make it roadworthy, but making it perfect again is sadly a very different matter.

If you're not going to listen to us.....They are fked, my shoulders come with armour and plastic "sliders" for such an occasion. You cooked your skin but you think they are ok? unless you fell on wet and dry that's no excuse cause of a few stones.

A whole set of fairing for the 5vy (before yours) is close to £3000 from a dealer. That's without the tank. Add in labour and you'll see why everyone are being negative, yet truthful.

No, I agree, they should have performed better, but I think they did ok-ish given the rough surface. The rest of them held together perfectly even though there are other scrapes and scuffs. The shoulder armour didn't reach to the point where the leather went through.

I've got minor grazes and cuts even from inside the padded and plastic armour on the elbows and fore-arms.

I think I'll steer clear of perforated leathers in future since that's got to make the area weaker. Looking online, it doesn't look like perforated leathers are very common these days.

£3000 wow, why so much for some moulded plastic with stickers on?

I think that perforated is no problem, when I bought mine I am pretty certain that they told me that it didn't weaken the leather at all, or I wouldn't have specced it.

I got Carrera leathers, not totally happy with the fit, but they are bombproof strong, 100 quid extra in the extra tough leather and I remember them telling me that a racer customer had crashed twice in his, at 150 then 180 and they needed no repairs. OK a circuit is less abrasive and has less other things to destroy leathers, but was the others have said, your disintegrated shockingly.

let me get this correct, you bought a leather outfit and noticed that there was a perforated area right where you most likely will slide along the ground, so asked the question to the salesman who wanted to sell you this and believed them when they said it wouldn't effect the strength of the design...

Unless its been strengthened with another material, its going to dramatically change the characteristics and function of the material. You have lightening it and introduced air flow, the result of this is j-cloth protection.

In fact if anyone can name any substance which when some bd drills holes into it the item becomes stronger mention, as ive asked 2 structural engineers, 2 designers and a process opp and not one could think of it.

A minge?

I have drilled a few of those in the past and they have got stronger the more you drilled them.

Because they can & you can't get decent ones that fit & look right from anywhere else.

Wow, those leathers are dreadful! I came off at 120mph on Xaus corner (Big final right hander) at Portimao, destroying my right leg and put a hole in my arm - My leathers faired much much better than those.

Get rid.
