In a 2 race weekend, 80km (20 laps around Donington, 4km long) 2 races = 160km, 3 practice sessions and qualifying say 15 laps in each practice = 180km and 15 laps in qualifying = 60km plus another 5 or 6 laps in warmup = 24. Total = 424km, add another 80km for a 3 race weekend. They'd need to change the swing arm linkage after 5 rounds and they will need 3 for the season.

why does something like that cost so much and wear so quickly? is it some bizarre Italian job creation programme?
Because it's made in italy and has 'ducati corse' written on it.
It's not just the Italians (although they are rather good at picking a number out of thin air) have you seen the price of a custom spec Kenny Roberts swingarm?

You do realise that someone has spent many many hours designing and analysing stuff like that? That's where the money is

Apparently HRC rear spindles are £1900! :O

On the PBM engine thing, it's no different to Tyco, Hawk and Lee Hardy Racing, all of whom run engines directly from BMW Motorrad.

Yes I do especially the fact they can engineer the amount of flex your swingarm has, but I think you missed my point which was that it's not just the preserve of the Italians.

I didn't miss your point, I just didn't think you had one. The cost is there for a reason, to pay for the engineering that has gone into it. Things like that don't sell in vast quantities so the price has to be high to recoup the costs, the price isn't just guessed

It was a light hearted comment coming from someone who's recently had some head work carried out by the the Hawk Racing guys.

Maybe I should have added a smiley face to get the point across biggrin

He is but I'd heard they were looking for a second rider.

Certainly retaining the wrong one unless Rispoli has decided to go elsewhere already.

I hoped for better results for Rispoli, I like him as a rider.

Early days on the big bike I guess.

"team owner Rob Winfield" retains Shaun Winfield. Is there a clue in the surname?

Not exactly true!

Hawk build & maintain there engines but they originate from alpha racing, as do all the others. theres nothing such as a factory bmw engine in bsb, anyone can phone alpha and order them. my good mate crowey ran the same spec motor as them at tt16, 228bhp, warranted (sort of) for 2500km
