Its the sad state of our society, with around 40 bikes every day are stolen in London alone, so don't leave it parked out in the open without physical security ...its 5x more likely to have your bike nicked there than the rest of the country

There sure must be a lot of warehouses in London full of bikes being broken for bits or heading down the docks.....

Loon... come on. Is it so hard to understand that someone is upset that a bike has been nicked and they are just venting? Its just ranting. Although if caught perhaps a nicely place right cross wouldnt hurt the justice process?

This is why I cannot ride to work on my Blade or KTM. frown I have to park in the street and have to buy a older less desirable bike to leave in the parking bays. Because of these brazen thieving bds.

They need their fking right hand chopping off!

Sorry Loon.

Yeah, there does not seem to be any focus on organised bike theft ....I got a new bike in the last few months, I live in the sticks, one of the lowest crime rate areas of the country. Locked alarmed garage attached to the house. Insurer still wants physical security on the bike at home and when out and about

I guess its a bit like trackers on higher value cars and insurers insisting on them...the insurance industry is just trying to minimise loss

But rather than insurers and owners deal with the fall out, surely it would be better to put more emphasis on the root cause....its too easy to get away with bike theft. You rarely hear of anyone being caught and doing time, or big gangs being shut down. Its almost like they have free reign to drive about London just picking up bikes at their leisure frown

Mine is in central London but its parked right under my window across the street. I can gaze upon it at will. Not sure how confident I would be if I couldn't though.

If a white van turned up and got it into the back of their van within 30 seconds, how quickly could you get out of the building and out onto the street to stop them? They'd probably be long gone before you even got to the exit of the building. Would you be able to take a photo with your smartphone from your desk? Only if you were able to resist making a run for the door. From across the street through glass, your photo would probably be as good as useless any way...

Another logic fail, so loved on here. I've not said I support them at all. I've simply said that those ranting about mutilation and death are pretty well in line with Sharia. That's all.

Insurers can't track down thieves, that's the role of the police. The police are underfunded and this is a low priority as people are not injured as a result. You all know my views on London.

I'm intrigued about your insurance comment demanding physical security. I'm well versed in bike insurance and the requirement for alarms / locks and chains disappeared in 2005 when AXA entered the market. I live in a high risk area in the M62 corridor and have no such stipulations at all. I'm expected to garage it when at home and that's it. My bike could be considered high value too.

What bike have you got and which insurer is this?

Completely agree with the Police being underfunded and no focus on the crime. Whilst insurers and bike owners pick up the pieces, little seems to be done about the crime in the first place.

I have a multi vehicle policy underwritten by Chaucer and its an MV Brutale 1090RR that this condition applies to. I just added it on, the least hassle at the time. Ive since been on the price comparison sites and think I will be shopping around in January as it would appear theyve charged me more for 6 months cover than what I can get a year for elsewhere...

They'll surely have to shift it to a different country.

That thing will be impossible to sell or rude very far in the UK without being spotted I reckon.

Knicking RJ's bike is surely more hassle than it's worth.

How do you get away with parking on the pavement? I always thought the wardens would ticket for that unless that part of the pavement was within the demise of a private building.

Wardens have no jurisdiction on the pavement. That's a police matter, who dont care because the pathway isn't really obstructed in this case. Gets passed by lots of wardens and a few police, each day.

Meh. You can only do so much. If the fkers can park close enough, snip the chain and hoist it into a van that quick, they deserve it.

Not a problem. It's insured, he'll get paid out and buy another one. rolleyes

He is insured and he would get paid out. That's not my point. My point was that a bike can be stolen in the blink of an eye and unless he sits there watching his bike all day and can then jump out of the window from whichever floor he's on, then it'll be gone before he gets there. He has a false sense of security with it, that's all. My take on theft is let it go, I certainly wouldn't fight over inanimate property, especially when it's insured.

I don't have an aliases on here. Report me to the mods if you believe I have and they'll check it. If they find I have, then I'm sure they'll ban me for it.

I removed that off the camera and photobucket (does anyone want to check?). But there's always that doubt hehe

Plus, what difference would it make other than tell people there is a bike chained to railing somewhere? They'd pass 100 others before they reached it.
