M1 wheelie hero

Been riding since Thatcher's first government but I've never learned to wheelie - if it happens I always put the front wheel back on the road, sharpish. Which was a good thing when I was racing because wheelies slow you down and the race organiser gives you a telling off. But now I think perhaps I want to wheelie. Is it too late to learn? I reckon it would be hard to fight the instinct to put the wheel down...old dogs and new tricks etc.
Its never too late to learn, here's me practicing on my 50cc Moped.Undinist said:

Its never too late to learn, and on a modern powerful bike, getting it up is the easy bit....keeping it up is what takes the practice ..and finding somewhere to practice in safety without worrying about others can be challenging these days...
So why not have some fun and a day out with the guys at iwanttowheelie.co.uk ...its a good laugh day out for riders of all skill/experience levels

I've done it recent years, it is a good laugh. I too have ridden bikes since my teens and can pull wheelies a bit but lost the knack to keep it up for any distance As I ride an 8ft long Harley mostly for the last 4 years, strangely enough, I haven't got much practice in
I did see novices who have just passed their test there who were doing wheelies by lunch, then practicing distance for the rest of the day
The 2 lads running the training are trials/stunt riders and the techniques/drills build you up in a nice safe way. You cant flip the bikes as they have sticks on the back that cut the power if you go too far. As you improve (and confidence builds) they move the sticks up. Later on you will use the rear brake to do what the sticks are doing for you.
Its a good way to learn throttle control and increase your confidence riding on one wheel, and of course its on an airfield, no traffic to worry about.

Wheelies are definitely cool.
Deserted road is a given though, or certainly not one with a traffic Police bike coming the other way. I got 6 months!
6 months ban or 6 months inside ?!Deserted road is a given though, or certainly not one with a traffic Police bike coming the other way. I got 6 months!
On a brighter note, it really was a cracking wheelie. KDX200, 2nd, 3rd & 4th and no children were harmed.

6 months inside, of which I did 3 I think? It was 20+ years ago now and isn't something I care to remember too often. It was an 'open prison' and more a waste of time than much else. I was done for Reckless Driving and Magistrate was not impressed, so sent me to Crown for sentencing.

bks. I smell mitigating circumstances. It's fine you don't have to give details but this is just nonsense. On a brighter note, it really was a cracking wheelie. KDX200, 2nd, 3rd & 4th and no children were harmed.

Sounds like a nice wheelie though. :-)

I'm not sure what I can say / do to allay your suspicions but it's not something I'm proud of. It took place in Maidstone, Kent in about '87/'88 and was on the road past the East station I think, behind the High St. This was brought up at the time. Anyway, I don't feel the need to come here are pretend so if you don't believe it, that's fine. We can leave it at that.
Great have a good day. e21Mark said:

st, bad luck bloke. I had 'similar' when I did a one handed wheelie past an unmarked police car whilst waving to the lads He went phuckin' ape', proper, I thought he was going to have a seizure! First appearance was adjorned with prosecution reserving the right to take sentencing to Crown court, I shat myself. Fortunately after another whole day in court with an excellent [expensive] brief got it down to a lot of points and hefty fine. Made me think though. Nowadays there are too many do-gooders with dash cams only too willing to grass you up. Deserted road is a given though, or certainly not one with a traffic Police bike coming the other way. I got 6 months!

I actually got overtaken recently mid corner by a guy on a old courier bike and fag in his mouth. Oh how I laughed.
That being an open face lid therefore making it easy to positively ID you, what are the ramifications of plod seeing that picture and taking action? It would be petty but I wouldn't put it past them.Biker's Nemesis said:
