I don't get Harris mania, but why doesn't he post on here now he's fked off to do some other st that ill never read nor watch. Surely he should be joining the clan.
I suspect it makes him 'edgy" having a 1299S while his adoring fans and acolytes watch on. Why come to a place where people actually ride?? Where's the upside for him and his self marketing??If I had the option of electronic aids on a bike, id take it.
I recently witnessed a chap at Snetterton on the new R1, 1500miles done and 3 track days in and he loved it, He said he just dialled in the traction control and wheelie control and could just drift it around Coram curve and just feel a subtle reduction of power. From what I could see he was the fastest in the inters/fast. Most probably down to skill and big balls, but a lot of would be down to knowing he could push it a lot harder with electronic aids.
If I had 14K spare, I think id take the R1 over the 1299.

I'm surprised we haven't fully explored the "I've got an old bike and am therefore a better rider than you over there with a new bike with all these electronic gizmos" angle.
I'm not faster than you yet. Prof Prolapse said:
His bills get paid by viewer interest. Smart choice of bike if you ask me.
Which begs the question...Did he buy it or was it a "marketing" gift.
after all, considering the average demographic of his followers, it might be a way of enticing them onto a superbike as well as a supercar.

He'll probably tell on his review. He was very open about the finance arrangements on his Ferrari if I recall. I would be skeptical an internet automotive pundit could get gifted a 1299 S, but what do I know.Did he buy it or was it a "marketing" gift.

I don't think that matters though does it? Do you think he's going to lead folk astray or something?

Conversely, I wouldn't be surprised. He's a known Porsche man. Porsche = Audi. Audi = Ducati.I don't think that matters though does it? Do you think he's going to lead folk astray or something?
They'll be looking to who would want a bike like this. Why do you think that when someone who has some cash and has never ridden a bike invariably gets a Ducati????
Considering they'd give it to him, he'd limit the mileage and return it in 6 months when they'd sell it, their total loss would be a couple of grand. In terms of brand marketing, that's nothing....
or maybe it's the cynic in me
As for leading people astray... Not at all. Free will and such. But advertising sells

but why??......according to Mr. Harris, the 1299S is a joyously easy thing to ride. So simple and non threatening that you could step right out of your [insert any supercar here] and onto the Ducati without fear of your mortal fragility unlike bikes of old. And if it's fine for Mr. Harris, it's fine for you too...
You might not have ever ridden a bike before but this bike won't kill you Mr. Porsche driving midlife crisis potential customer

Doubt it's clever enough to go round a corner without instruction. And when mr supercar goes barrelling in at his 'usual' pace, sees some gravel and questions his line he may find out that the bike is very forgiving, but the hedge isn't according to Mr. Harris, the 1299S is a joyously easy thing to ride. To me its what the General populace think of Ducati, the perception is its the equivalent of Ferrari, so it is an aspirational brand, where as many who have a broader knowledge of bikes, in my mind at least, would say Alfa Romeo, is a better comparison.
The world is a horrible place though Steve so you could be correct. MCN went through a huge BMW plug the other year and I remember EVO were suspiciously pro-Porsche. I think a little corruption is necessary for their survival however. How else do they tie in with maunfacturers?
