I don't think anyone's disputing Chris Harris' ability. It's those that will blindly believe/follow him without his ability to control a vehicle but with the ability to write a cheque that I was referring to
Fine and there might be those people. But Chris didn't invent them. The DAS and wealthy people and desirable bikes have been around for ever. Is the well-heeled but newly licensed biker better off today, getting on a Pano with the electronic water-wings, or 17 years ago when they went straight on to a '98 R1?

Yeah, it has been like that for years.... after all someone needs to continue to keep up the stereotype of the wealthy ATGNI type power ranger in matching team leathers, complete with 2" chicken strips on tyres that are good for 60deg of lean angle smile

At least Mr Harris may have the motivation, time and money to spend months, (and months) on track time/tuition to accelerate his learning versus just riding to the local bike meet each week during summer for a coffee and to talk top trumps figures with anyone who will listen...

more than you'd think wink

Friends have them for road and for race.... I've ridden both. Ask why the 1299 is SO different from the 1199?

When I were a lad we used to race home from School along the cycle paths and through housing estates, it was all slightly downhill so I could get into the higer gears of my 10 speed Raleigh Arena
Blue? Five gears with shifter on the frame? Had one as well, bloody awesome.

It's fine. He's a big boy. I hope he gets it on the track and really gets to see what's what

This thread is odd.

Who cares that a journo bought a bike?

Honestly, stop worrying about everyone else's grass and tend to your own.

From what I've seen and read of him, he comes over as a nice guy.
We should be pleased he's took the time and effort to pass his test and shell out for a top end bike.
I would imagine he'll be telling all his car journo mates what its like.
I cannot understand the criticism from a few on here?
If it was a BMW 1000rr or a ZX10r would he get such a hard time?

I don't get Harris mania, but why doesn't he post on here now he's fked off to do some other st that ill never read nor watch. Surely he should be joining the clan.
I suspect it makes him 'edgy" having a 1299S while his adoring fans and acolytes watch on. Why come to a place where people actually ride?? Where's the upside for him and his self marketing??

Far from a criticism..

Purely a speculation ,/conjecture which, and If you want to keep quoting, goes to speculate a possible reason as to why he's on a VAG product...
After all, his motorcycle musings are still very much aimed at his 4 wheel followers.....
As someone said, his bills are paid by his perceived interest , so anything he does is going to be to further that following. otherwise, why write about it....
Remember, Chris Harris exists to be Chris Harris. Everything he does is material for his writings. MTB asks why he would cease to post here.. Simply, it doesn't benefit brand Harris. Why give your writings or thoughts for free when it's obvious people pay well for them? And I'm not being critical, it's what he does professionally.

I think we'll agree to differ.
When read the item I thought good on him.
He has always come across as a decent guy from what I have seen.

I'm fairly sure he is a decent guy (not having met him). Certainly gives the impression of being a genuine enthusiast on camera and in print.

Probably why he is so successful biggrin

I disagree that we disagree biggrin
He is a very good journo, a well respected wheelsmith and by all accounts a really nice bloke. I'm not saying otherwise

But, He's a brand. Chris Harris is all about the Harris brand. Yes, good luck to him, but perhaps, and I'm just postulating here, if the buying of a 1299 were a personal thing, why bring it to your public rather than keep it as part of your "private" life. Anything he writes is about maintaining or increasing his following and therefore his brand value not just with the public but by extension the manufacturers. Ergo, anything he drives or rides becomes publicity for that brand and himself. Symbiotic relationship. No different from BvG buton a higher level.
And re the track comment, it wasn't meant as a dig. More of the fact that where's the upside for him?? He's a very handy driver, but what If he's pants on a bike? Not good for the brand Harris.
