Why do they always happen on brand new tyres and not on the scabby old one you threw away 300 miles ago? The garage said it can't be fixed either. Bugger.

Is it because they're softer when new? Same happened to me, 600 miles on tire and flipping puncture.

Fortunately Google is better at Latin than me, but yes you're right. Doesn't make shelling out for the new one any easier though.

What sort of puncture, and where? Remember, garages have a bit of vested interest in replacing instead of repairing (and may have insurance qualms)

Too right. Puncture repair in a Z rated tyre is technically not allowed. They therefore make up most of the tyres I ride on.

The recent PH BB trackday at Snett my back tyre had sat on a shelf with a big hole in it for 5 years. I almost cry when I read those threads about "tyres must be perished being 3 or 4 years old". Bit of effort and she's good for a day of laying black lines. I've just shifted it off the GSXR track bike and onto the R1 road bike that I'm taking for an MoT tomorrow.

Just bagged a pair of Metz Roadtec Z8's as well for the winter on my spare wheels. Balls to actually paying for tyres!

Naa, it's more of a cut than a hole so it can't really be plugged. He found the metal shaft of a screwdriver in the tyre when he took it off. It deflated within seconds so I'm quite pleased it's just a tyre I need rather than a new bike or a new body!

Ah well, sometimes you've just got to look on the bright side smile
I've only ever had one cut like that, against dozens of holes which have been ridden for thousands of miles with mushroom plugs in, so thought it might be worth considering...
