What is it about these bikes that makes me want to own one.
Looking at the later "F" or even the slightly older "E" models, thinking that's about 2002 onward ?

I do like the twin headlamps upfront.

I am fairly tall, so I think the ZX9R could be more my tourer, than an out and out sports bike, with which it as originally designed for.

Certainly quick enough,

Whats mot to like.
For the prices, they seem very good value.

Great bike very underrated from what I've read over the years.

I had an E1, new in 2001...It was quick(gapped my bro's 929 Blade everywhere) and handled very well, on the road at least.

They are a bit of a bargain Vs Blades etc, I would have another but id budget for a carb fettle and be mindful of the finish, it wasn't great when new.

I had about 4 C models, 3 road & one for track over a few years, loved them, very comfy, very fast mile munchers.

Suffered with carb icing which has an easy cure. My brother had the E model, I personally was overly keen on its lairy graphics smile

I'm 6'7 & put 63000 miles (double bubble screen)on my E1 ZX9R it was a great bike for commuting & Sunday blasts when the 996 I had at the time would decide it didn't want to start. The only thing I had to buy were clutches pads & discs. Once a year I'd have the shims & carbs set up the rest of the servicing I'd do myself it's a very good bike & underrated.

130 miles from full to reserve then spin the tap & another 40 miles are yours get one you won't regret it.

I'm 6;1 and 16st the problem I have is with my dodgy knees on mine.
Would'nt expect it to be any better on most other sports bikes and I've had a few that I know would be worse.
Like the other guys have said they are very cheap and quick.
Earlier models with the 6pot calipers tend to need to need a fair bit of maintinance to keep the brakes decent but if your going for an f model you get the 4pot nissins which are generally much better thought of.
Bargains at the moment though.

Yep I was surprised by mine, it would show an indicated 180 too, the engines in them are quicker than the same age R1, and 954 'blade and for the road and 'normal' riding they are as fast as they need to be, the newer super dooper S1000CBRGSXRXYZ's might have 190bhp but I'd wager they wouldn't get far ahead riding on public roads, I really can't remember why I sold my E2, it was mint, the brakes were st in comparison with my Fazer, but that could easily be sorted smile

edit just been browsing ebay and my old one is on there

its a good job I don't have any cash to spare at the minute biggrin

I had one, E1, was ok but I'm not particularly nostalgic over it. Heavy, soft, prone to electrical issues. The E1 has carbs fitted to no other and parts are expensive (float pin £50 rather than £7). Yeah there quick but Dull and comfortable tourer is how I'd describe. I'd chopped a CBR1000rr in for it to pocket some cash and it felt like a completely different generation bike. I wouldn't have another, I would have another 7r though..

When I was contemplating one a couple of months ago I looked on Cycle Ergo and these had a 67 deg knee angle for me, compared to my Thundercat which was 65 and old R1 which is 64. I'm 6'2" with occasionally iffy knees and find both Yams comfy enough, so the ZX should feel luxuriously spacious.

Here's a nice one with the preferred Nissin 4 Pots on.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-ZX9R-F2P-2004-/...

This one has had some very nice upgrades put on it & would be the one I'd buy despite the mileage.

Pretend Ohlins forks, pretend Brembo calipers and mismatched budget tyres.

Agreed but it does have the ZX6R forks which are a good upgrade as are the Brembo Master Cylinder Braided Lines & ZX10R Rear Shock, it's cheaper to take the stickers off than buy & fit the parts wink

Ha ha, yeah they are a generation behind the CBR1000RR. The D was a bit of an odd thing when it came out, not much lighter than the ZZR1100, had a smidgeon more peak horsepower. The C was pretty much a new bike and was like the 600 but with a 900 cc donk in it. But the R1 came out at the same time and did take a lot of the attention away from the ZX9. The R1 had a harder edge.

I found the C to be very easy to ride - comfortable, light and quick. I bought one a few years ago when one came up for a good price as a fixxer-upper. Haven't finished it yet. It'll be interesting to see if I don't get bored on it.
