So...

A 'friend' wink may have lowsided his bike over the weekend. No one else was involved. He then went about working out if the bike was repairable without involving the bd insurers.

The long and short of it is that the bike requires a lot of work so its time to call the insurers.

Can I... I mean 'he' wink get into bother that he hasn't declared the accident within 24 hours?

Seems more like a guideline rather then a rule.

Anyone clued up?

If you - I mean "he" is not claiming, and you're (he is) the only party involved, I don't see why you (he!) would be under any obligation to declare it to the insurance company. Who's to say you didn't deliberately lay the bike down, thus making it "not an accident"?

If you, er he, wants the insurance to pay, as long as you make the claim within a period covered by your policy and nobody else is involved, what does it matter what the actual date was when the bike went down? How will your insurance know whether you informed them within 24 hours unless you tell them?

My understanding is you only need to inform police if you have damaged infrastructure/property.

I guess it comes down to not trusting the insurance industry. They seem to want to wangle out of everything and as such, this situation is being approached cautiously.

The accident happened. We looked at the bike and thought its a straight forward repair. In calculating the costs it seems too much to do alone so it has to go through the insurers, with a real posibility of the bike being written off.

Just a shame.

Ok well then its cool as thankfully no one was involved and no property was damaged other then the bike itself.
