A friend has one for commuting to the station every day.
A very capable machine, he has nevertheless had problems with the electrics. As previously mentioned, the stator windings and more recently the Throttle Position Sensor. Replacement ones from Honda are into 4 figures.....
I don't know if it's a common failure, but something to factor into your musings!
Cheers,
Tom
Bloke at work had that. From Honda you have to get complete throttle bodies, however the TPS from an Accord (I think) fits for about £38. Latest Update on this. The Ark Royal, having left me stranded in Poplar High Street at 8pm last night (and trust me, you don't EVER want to be stranded in Poplar High St) has made it's last commuting run into London; well, with me sat on it, anyway. It's become completely unreliable in a completely unpredictable way. Keeps cutting out, might restart, might not, might do 30 miles, might not. So, it's time for a one-way ticket to a well-known internet auction website for that one.
I have had a look at a couple of CBFs now, although not ridden one, and they didn't fill me with any sense of want or desire. I imagine they would be quite capable of the task at hand but there's no excitement.
I can't find a TDM with ABS (other than 200 miles away). I haven't looked at the F800 yet but I sense it may be too small for me.
So, whilst I'm not ruling out an R1200RT, I am coming round to thinking that, Ewan McCharlie jibes notwithstanding, I may need to get me an R1200GS. Seems to be the best combination of all the bits I need, and should deliver a little bit of fun on the days I'm not commuting. Just need to find one within budget and distance now.

Have you had a look on the TDM owners forum, often one or two for sale on there. Www.carpe-tdm.net

Cheers, no, I hadn't looked there - nothing at the moment but I'll keep an eye.RizzoTheRat said:
Might be worth asking on there if anyone knows of one for sale, it's occasionally worked for people. It tends to be rather incestuous, I sold my Mk1 to another member, who's since sold it on to another, and bought my 900 via the site
OK, thanks for the tip, I'd better sign up!Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
