A really good read, insight into the Chinese business world of fakes and spotting them that applies to more than the sj4000. What it does not discuss, or rather seems to say does not exist much, are perfect copies.... But the tip on firmware updates is probably a good enough start.

I would happily get the SJ4000 at around £50, but on Amazon you never know whether it a fake or genuine until it arrives as the picture in the advert may be real and then a fake turns up.

Does anybody have a link please to a site where I can buy a real one?

FoxOffer were the Chinese seller I bought mine from last year. They were said to sell the proper SJ4000, according to Techmoan blog if I remember correctly.

I think SJ CAM also have their own shop on their site?

Yes I did, it appears that the SJ4000 on the link has all the signs of a genuine version? Whether they actually send that version is a different matter!

My SJCAM 4000 wifi has arrived from gearbest.com in 3 days all in for £48. What an impressive bit of kit! All the accessories are included even the EU adaptor.

The equivalent Go-pro would have cost £100's with the accessories.

Really impressed with the gear on Gearbest, loads of stocking fillers and great value!

Does the SJ4000 allow you to power it continuously whilst recording AND be in the waterproof housing?

Its been stuffed in the xmas present stash, but I will have a look tonight.

I do recall that there are buttons on the waterproof housing on the side, front and top, but not sure about the power point.

I've just checked out a video and no there is no access to the power with the case on. But I guess you could drill a hole.

£275 is a lot of cash, i wish i had bought the SJ5000 now with 4K HD etc (£98) now i know that my SJ4000 is genuine.

Mine was £42 which is a lot cheaper than £275 and will do for what i need.
