1998 ZX6R - G1 model. My first bike after passing my test in 2004, swapped the standard can for a Titanium Mivv can and rode it till the wheels came off. Wrote the bike off when the throttle stuck open as I was pulling away from a set of lights and had to ditch the bike before I crashed into my mate. I fixed the bike back up and sold it to another mate who tracked it.

1998 ZX6R - G1 model - 2nd bike, travelled from Glasgow to some remote corner of Wales about 40mins South of Aberystwyth and then rode it all the way home. Bike was also written off when I hit a patch of wet and oily road surface at 60mph. Fixed the bike back up with eBay parts bin then sold it.

1999 ZX6R - G2 model - 3rd bike, was a very cheap bike but had to endure an overnight 10hr Megabus from Glasgow to London then a short train out to Rochester before riding it all the way home immediately after collection. I only had this bike for 6 weeks before I hit loads of gravel on a manky B-Road in the middle of deepest Ayrshire and smacking my head resulting in complete memory loss for the day. It was also the first bike I insured FC including kit protection. Insurance paid out more than double what I paid plus cash for all my kit.

2000 R6 - My 4th bike and the first bike I never crashed, Bought it from a work collegue. Loads of extras including LED rear lights, undertray, steering damper, K&N filter, full Akrapovic system, gear indicator, DB screen, K-Tech internals, braided lines, DID chain and sprockets etc. Was mainly used on track as I stopped enjoying road riding.

Thats my biking history from 2004 to 2010 before I had a break.

Had a break for years but started to 'borrow' a friends ZX9R and GSX1400 for a few weeks out of the year (2018-2019) then bought my own Yamaha MT07 for about 18 months. Sold it for some stuff around the house but will look at another one come April/May time of this year.

The MT07 would be the safest choice.. personally, I would avoid buying another ZX6R wink

Young and stupid and still really learning the art of bike control. I would say I should have at least avoided one of those accidents, the last one but never noticed the road conditions and down I went.

The Yamaha R6 never hit the deck in over 4 years of ownership including lots of days at Knockhill including a few wet days with sticky tyres. Amazing how much you can learn about bike control on a wet track and being very cautions with your inputs.

MT07 was a hoot if a little rough around the edges. Will be looking for a much cleaner example this year,

Shifting focus slightly, which bikes do still wish you had?

l wish I still owned my GPZ500s. It was just one of those bikes that was just brilliant but you couldn't quite put your finger on why.

That's one of the bikes on my "must try one day" list, next to the Honda CB1300.
