Just bought (and my friend picked up for me) a winter commuter hack which I'll show on here when I collect it Thursday evening.

Then I'll take the 'blade off the road apart from a few blasts when the weather is ok and give it a little freshen up for sunny days and track use next year. Current wishlist is decent discs, rear sets and wider clip ons... and a USD fork conversion if I can find out/work out how much it will bugger the geometry.
i'm totally useless at this sort of thing, but which 'blade came without USD forks?

eta: Forgive me, I've answered my own stupid question.

I might get some crosser/enduro type thing to run over winter, and ready the Street Triple for sale to make room for a Hyper next year at some stage.... Well that's the plan anyway.

Aye I have 4 tracks within about 10 min of my house. Although I need to find out if you pay and play or if they are just used for racing which sadly I think 3 of them are. Im sure there must be plenty of green lanes around here to.
I am probably going in this direction too. Which tracks are they? Warmingham, Norley and what else?

My mate rides off road so i can find out where he goes, he just generally tits around on his which is what I want to do.

1989 Honda CRM 250

A little rough around the edges (mainly a cracked front mudguard that's been cable tie stitched), recently had quite a few new bits inc. head bearings, rear brake pads and pad pin, front braided line, fat bars with risers, new levers after I broke the clutch lever.

If you're properly interested PM me, otherwise look out for it on some selling sites in the next couple of weeks.

I'm hoping to be away with work, hopefully somewhere warm-ish so I miss most of the crap weather.

Beemer will get used on any sunny dry days there are, last ride last year was on the 1st of November before all the salt was everywhere and it was generally wet every day. This bike is too new to me to risk tarnishing by using it on stty days when I don't have to.

Track bike - not sure. Either going to strip it down and tart it up, or leave as is and sell it on to make way for a 750 for next year.

When I move to NI I'll probably be commuting on the bike as the public transport over there is pathetic. My k6 GSXR is still in brilliant condition. If I cover it in ACF50 for the commuting will it do the job or will I have to accept the finish is going to get ruined?

Because I did that, and more to an RRW and the 99 R1 I replaced it with in 03 shat all over it in just about every respect. If you want a better Blade buy a 954 or later.
No thanks. My uncle has an immaculate 07 CBR1000RR and we swapped bikes last weekend and we both thought mine was the nicer bike to ride, albeit nothing like as much power. The older blades have much nicer styling as well IMO, and are far more practical.

It's also far more enjoyable to turn a bike into something you like rather than just throw some money at a newer bike.

Ta very much! Been having a look around and some say you can retain the original 16" with a bit of a fiddle machining new spacers etc.
Also people say the 1000RR forks fit too which opens the option of radial brakes, have to use 929/954 yokes mind.

Plenty to think about...
The 1000RR yokes aren't a good fit, the steering lock and lock stops won't work which means the bars will hit the tank. You can use the 929/954 yokes with the 1000RR fork legs though.

No problem, ride what makes you happy. I had a new 94 Blade and it was a great bike in it's day, trying to turn my 98 RRW into something better was just rolling a turd in glitter IMO.

To a degree I agree with you however for me personally, I never want to sell my 97 as I've already done so much work to it, however to make it a bit different and to modernise/cure it's weak points then adding different suspension/wheels/brakes to make it more capable on track is a no brainer.

Plus if there's people like you happy to punt on older bikes for getting newer ones it means cheap folk like me (northeners) get cheap toys so it's a win-win!

Modern classic?
I'm sniffing for something usable in the winter - VFR800, Daytona 955i, etc. Came close to a 50th anniversary VFR800, but couldn't agree on a price on viewing. No rush or particular direction and staying away from track bikes as I know I'll have no time next year to trackday extensively. Whatever it is, will need to be a bargain as I likes a good bargain, I do. So if there are any distressed sellers or potential trade-ins lurking out there, I have cash waiting as long as it's fairly local smile

Everything interesting that I fancy, I've either already owned, or has been sucked into the 'classic vehicle price bubble' so presents no value anymore, so a fun workhorse is the way forward.

Same. Quite fancy a pay and play, or some greenlaning. Still need to look into a trailer - just other things have come first so far.

smile I've never ridden one but I gather the 97 was the last decent carb Blade. I can't see the point in chucking money at one trying to update it when Honda have already done that though. I only punt on my bikes when something obviously better comes out, kept my K6 1000 for 7 years and only sold it because it got a bit tired.

I'd be interested to know where the green lanes and tracks are. Very tempted on an old Serow if I sell the CBR.

My winter plans involve fixing up the VFR (new radiator, maybe new relay or whatever causes it not to start currently) and maybe some restoration on it.

CBR will tucked up with an optimiser other than on dry Saturdays for a little blast. Then in spring probably sell it and either get a Serow or spend the money on the house and downsize to one bike.

Deep clean for all 3 bikes. Recently bought a Fazer which will get more attention in the cleaning department. Might take the carbs off and get them deep cleaned and balanced to make sure its all hunky borry. I've got a PC5 to fit the the other halfs ER6 which will also need mapping etc. ZX10 will probably get some more trick bits as well.

Already started stripping the Thunderace down. Problem is plans are escalating with what I want to do to it.

New fairings
Braided clutch line
Accossato radial clutch master cylinder to match the brake side
Service inc checking valve clearances
Second set of wheels to be powdercoated
New Braking brake discs with carbon fibre carriers

The rest will be tidying it up, making sure everything is held in place properly and its tidy. I need to work out how I'm going to stop it from sending all the oil into the airbox as it's getting a bit frustrating pouring so much oil into it on a track day.
