Watching traffic cops right now and they have a traffic cop, catching speeding bikers on his bike. This is obviously the dream job for a biker but got me thinking, there are obviously policemen/women who are bikers but why? When surely it is almost impossible to keep to the speed limits on these super bikes they are riding?

I can't see how its worth it if you stick to the speed limits, which I assume they must do at risk of losing their job.

You understand what I'm saying? I'm not advocating breaking speed limits, and I don't own a bike, but I can't understand how someone like a police officer who needs to stick to limits would have a powerful bike? Surely speed is the point?

Because they don't stick to the limits! Just because they Inforce the law on work time don't mean they don't break it outside work time!

I've reduced your post to the salient points.

Quite often the police bikers will apply the law more sensibly, excessive speed where it's safe will be frowned upon, but they will come down hard on dangerous riding.

But in any case, there is so much more to it than going fast, even on the more powerful superbikes.

And yet you obviously have no problem with the concept of Traffic Police driving Subaru Imprezas, Audi S3's, BMW's, 3 litre Vectra's, the odd Jaguar, Volvo T5 (OK, a few years ago) etc.

Because that's so much easier to understand???

I don't think police bikers use sports bikes do they? Or are you asking why they may own them personally? Same reason the police officers I know are happy to drive fast, get drunk, fight, bang coke in their nose and generally act like yobs they chase down during their working week. They're only humans I guess. They will be more careful not to get caught simply because they have more to lose, but to think they are all squeaky clean out of work is crazy.
Besides, police bikers are probably the safest on the roads due to time in the saddle and extensive and continuous training.

That might be the case but with the riding skills they have they will still leave you standing in any situation/road condition. So effectively, you'll get easily left behind by one of these fridges.

Around my area there's quite a few unmarked sports bikes, the one of note this season was a motorsport colours S1000RR.

What I have found though, is that these guys are normally decent blokes who enjoy riding themselves, so aren't so quick to hand fines/points out; You're much more welcome to get some words of advice and sent on your way (assuming you aren't riding like a complete knob).

I wish that was the case regards the bikes but I witnessed for myself and put a picture up on PH last year (I think...) of a bunch of Thames Valley video equipped police sportsbikes, which included a S1000R, VFR1200 and a ZZR1400..Al in OE colour schemes, just a small badge on the side of the fairings and white lids gave the game away.

Any time I see these bds on the tele they scream down the phone, advanced driver, advanced driver when the can't keep up with a focus.

I'll leave others to tell the stories of the police having their arse handed to them on a track day.

I doubt the above comment is applicable to all. The way you speak the should be on the grid for the next superstock race. Just saying.
