I'd also take a look at the Pirelli Angel GT - as good as the PR4 in the wet, and no sipes to heat up. My rear has done around 7-8000 miles worth of commuting in all weathers and a trip to Wales where no chicken strips were left, I still have a couple of mm left in the middle (75% of my miles are upright) (this is on a 400cc 50bhp bike mind, your wear may vary biggrin)

I've had PR4s on my K8 since last summer, they took me to southern France and back, all over Wales in the time since, and did Oulton Park in July. They still have tons of tread left. They do lose grip on track once warm but its very progressive and manageable IMO, I still had fun despite that.

Anyhow, my replacement R1 is now shod with PR4s, but I've not ridden on them yet. I'm sure they'll be great. Roll on spring...

Just thought id update this as i went for the PR4s in the end.
The back was changed in December.
And i changed the front today.

I am very chuffed! having done 1500 miles at a decent pace on the blade the tyre seems to be wearing well considering the horror stories about sportsbike tyre wear i have read. Feedback is good and dry grip is above my ability and wet is confidence inspiring.

Recommended!

That test was organised and sponsored by Pirelli Metzler. What a surprise 1st & 2nd place were given to Pirelli Metzler tyres. That was a marketing and promotion video for this tyre manufacturer.

Exactly. It was also mcn and neves who aren't well known for unbiased reviews.

To be fair they did say that there wasn't a huge amount to choose between them, they are all good tyres and most people would be happy with any of them.

I have the GT (stiffened sidewall) version of PR4 on my K!300S. Superb tyres.

I'm trying the standard PR4s on my Speed Triple currently - I got them chucked in as part of the deal to get the bike in Feb.
I've done a few hundred commuting miles on them so far all weathers and for that they are more than fine like their predecessors and dunlop roadsmart equivalents were too.
Not had a chance to use them out of town since weather hasn't been much cop until this weekend.

Looking the the ahem slightly biased review from MCN neves does say all of the tyres scored in the v good level.
To be honest I've now got Roadsmart 3s and Metz Z1 Roadtecs to try so I'm not exactly running out of new Sport Touring tyres on my list.

I am seriously thinking of these for my KTM 690 Supermoto, but Michelin do not list them as a fitment for that bike...

Which version of the PR is best for lightweight bikes ?

If they work fine for a Triumph 675... a lighter bike (690) with a heavier rider and pillon than normal is going to push the tyres more like a heavy bike ?? ... and so work fine ?? (140kg combined)

The most attractive thing for me was reading about their ultra fast warmup, 99% of my riding is short trips, straight onto twisties, so this is the most important factor for me


FWIW I liked the Conti Attack Supermoto tyres, only real criticism being that the center compound is a bit too hard for my braking needs, they have worn out near the edges, but have a few mm left in the center

PR4 Trails are going onto my 1290 Super Adventure in a few weeks. The Conti Trail attack 2's are rubbish in the wet.

Should be able to get a 120/70 and 160/60 PR4? I've got a set sat ready to go on my KTM690SMCR. Might use my sticky bridgestones first for the summer though!

Did 50 miles on new PR4s on a 2014 ZZR 1400 today. Superb tyres, fixing the tread shuffle issues of the PR3s on my old 2010 ZZR. Great tyres and unless you are very good or tracking the bike regularly you won't go wrong on them. Certainly nicer on the road than my Metzeler Racetec K3s on my Speed triple that only really work at 9/10ths plus on warmer days and a near full lean.

Yes, afaik the sizes are not the issue, but if you look at the Michelin site, it is not a recommended tyre for the 690s. I was wondering if my weight 100kg plus 40kg pillion would work the tyres more like a bigger bike.

I have also noticed that it is not so tyre sensitive, I have run mixed tyres and pootled around on half bald waiting for tyre orders, they are super easy to control the bike and ride around issues (laugh at slides) that on a thou would spit you off in a second. The Pirelli Diablo basico I got stiffed with after a puncture is awful, but you can live with it on this type of bike far easier, so for the road I don't see the PR4 "not being sticky enough" and the fast warm up more than making up for it
