Personally I wouldn't thrash but on the other hand I would occaisonally and not for sustained periods "give it some" and gradually increase it. I believe that this is the best approach and have always done so with no problems - IMO it gets the engine used to speed sooner whilst all is bedding-in rather than molly-coddling it for 1000 miles (or whatever) and then thrashing the b******s off it.

Works for me!

Depends what you want, power or long engine life?
Power = thrash from new.
Long life = run in properly.
