Luckily my brother has just moved to a place with a great undulating 5acre field!!!
We are both into greenlaning and enduro riding, My son who is 6 wants a bike desperately , I have looked at stomp bikes but have never seen one being ridden or anyone who has had one! Anyone on here with a similar pit bike or can recommend anything?

For a 6 year old, you cannot really go wrong with a decent second hand Honda QR50, Yamaha PW50 or Suzuki JR50. If you want something a little more posh then a KTM SX50 is nice.

You probably wont lose a penny when you come to sell it when you need/want to upgrade.

If a trials bike is what you want then a good starting point is a Beta Rev 50

Quads, just say no! Seriously??
Chinese or Pit bikes are cheap for a reason, they're shyte.
Get one of the usual suspects like a PW 50 or 80 ( depending on size of rider) or the Honda/Suzuki equivalents. Yamaha make the 4T TTR 50 which is a cracker with 3 gears.
Might be a bit pricier to buy initially but you'll only lose pennies when selling on.

Looking for something for my wee one. He is 8. I thought a quad but do you think bikes are safer? Can you limit them like you can with quads? I'm a but clueless
I looked at the Polaris 50cc quad and LT50 but they all seem older and buying a second hand one I wouldn't know what to look for?

8??

Yamaha PW80. Look no further.
Quads are for chops, no skill and fecking dangerous when you fall off.
Any parent making their child ride a quad should be had up for abuse. I wouldn't even let a ginger ride a quad...

My eldest is 7 this week, i've booked him a day at Washbrook farm trying out PW50's and CRF50's. If he likes it, i'm leaning toward the little honda...

Buy cheap, buy twice appears to be the rule here. I want something reliable, dependable and robust. And something that retains value...

If Trials is your bag then Size wise the OSET is best for the younger rider. The REV50/EVO80 small wheel gets them onto a geared Bike. OSET have a small Enduro MX bike coming soon. And as been said the Small Yamaha's and Hondas are best in that market. Chinese bikes tend to break.

He is really tall for his age, so don't want a really tiny bike as in physical size.
Yamaha PW50?

If he's 8 and tall, the PW50 and variants aremuch too small. The PW80 is bigger but nothing like an 80 mx bike in character. Reliable aircooled lump, no real power band, just a very easy to ride bike. Great for getting confident. Bikes like CR80's or KX 80's are to be avoided, they're little rippers and only for those who've already got their riding nous together.
I think the PW can be softened but just leave a load of slack in the throttle cable. He'll be up to speed in no time.

Or as Telecat says above, have a look at 80cc trials bikes. Great to learn on and he can learn so much more than just ripping around a field.

that's great, still on a budget though. Its not a case of not wanting to spend the money, its having it to spend! Sighs :- /

If you buy a good bike, you'll get the vast majority of it back when you sell it on. Chinese bikes are cheap for a reason, they're worthless in 2 years. A good PW or Trials bike will be like money in the bank.

I am 5'11 and 16 stone. I could ride my son's PW50 just fine.

I think the PW range have a screw in the throttle grip which allows you to limit how much the throttle opens.
