Looking at this shot again, your eyes are obviously drawn to the huge opened up flap at the back but I could easily be convinced that was done post (or mid) crash. Tyres have fibres running in more than one direction so when they fly apart the edges of the failure would show fraying as the fibres have literally been pulled apart. That looks like a neat cut - possibly made by the squashed piece of exhaust top left of piccie.

I'm not suggesting the tyre didn't cause the crash though (just maybe not at that 'split' part) and the fact you can actually see the top weave of the fibres describing that 45 degree pattern on the surface of the tyre I find odd / worrying.
And that cut and visible line where the cut carries around without opening could only have been made with the tyre inflated.
If the tyre had depressurised from an initial tyre failure the subsequent cut from the exhaust would be all over the tyre as the carcass collapsed and moved around. And as you say, a delaminating tyre looks shredded. Thats been subjected to a sharp object forced onto the tyre.
Pound to a penny thats a collapsed rear end that started it off

Barbera, Petrucci, Redding, Iannone all day 2 on softs before Baz's tyre went poof and the softs were pulled.

Apparently baz's tyre issue was to do with tyre pressure. The team lowered the pressure to increase grip. Whether the team did this off their own backs or on michelins recommendation I don't know. Over-heating caused delamination. Nasty all the same.

JL has been quoted as saying the lack of electronics makes the bike much more physical to ride.

Could shake things up a bit.
