Gentlemen,

I have toyed with the idea to buy a Maserati Gransport, but I couldn't find the right colour/interior
or the car was located too far away... (I wanted an MC Victory in blue or in bianco fuji, or a normal Gransport in one of the two colours)

so I'm where I was almost a year ago... last week I saw a Porsche 964 and I asked myself what
the life would be with one? Have children enough space in the back? Can it be used for short holidays?

Have I overlooked another car? It must have 4 seats (I already have 2 fun cars) preferably a youngtimer, and it must be a GT or a sportscar!

cheers

B.

The GranSport is a highly regarded driver's car. Furthermore I watched a family of 4 emerge from one at a car show a couple of years ago. The kids in the back were actually quite tall teenagers so there must be enough room, possibly even more than in the Gran Turismo successor. Another left-field choice is the Evora 2+2 but it's really only suitable for kids up to 12 years-old at the very most, added to which that leaves very little luggage space, so no good for holidays. Otherwise 911 (also small in back), XK-R, DB9 etc.

Hi

You are in a similar position to me, though ideally I would like 5 seats as I have 3 children!

I had a 911 3.2 Carrera, so not much different from a 964 and at the time I had 2 children. The space in the back was fine for young children and short journey's, but I could not see them wanting to do a longer journey in the back, and luggage space would become quite small if you wanted a longer journey for a weekend away, as the front boot is ok for 2 people, but not big enough for 4.

However it was a great car, a lot of fun and felt really well built. Definitely worth you considering.

I am also thinking Lotus Elan plus 2 (bit small in the back for long journey's), Jag XJS, BMW 635....

Always a tricky one - looking for 4 seater fun.
I typically compromise and end with a 3 seater - with no-one behind the driver, but the passenger front seat pushed forwards to accommodate one in the back. Jaguar XJS seems a little better than most British cars for rear seat legroom - loads of choice, much loved British classic - good availability of spares and specialists. Just watch out for the rust.

I ran a Maserati 4200 as my daily car for a couple of years. The Gransport is essentially the final iteration of the 4200. There are proper adult sized seats in the rear. The facelift 4200 has about 5bhp less than a Gransport and lacks the bodykit, an exhaust valve and a slightly different interior. They also go for around £10K less and are more readily available - this may increase your pool of choice. Worth looking on Sportsmaserati foroum - loads of good advice on there. I enjoyed the 2 years, but spares are very expensive, parts and specialist availability is nothing like as good as for a Jaguar. Lovely engine sound with loads of power and a luxurious feel to the cabin - it gave a real sense of theatre and occasion.

How about a Jaguar XJC?

Good luck with your search,

David

What about a Granturismo? Starting to creep under 30k and the same 400bhp engine as the GS and QP. Looks great to me.
