New bike thread.... (again....)
Discussion
So, I'm in the market for a new bike. Well, 'new to me' anyway.
I'm coming from an '09 Speed Triple, lightly modified. I did thousands on miles on that beloved machine. I took it all over Europe - from Sweden to Greece. One of the few, honest, terrible decisions I made was to sell it...
Onwards and upward!
I don't want anything with a big fairing. Plastics aren't really my style. I can fabricate some kind of rack for my soft-panniers, so again, luggage isn't really an issue.
I'm thinking a few different routes...
Rocket 3 roadster - big cruiser. I took one for a spin for a few hours before. Torquey, but with standard induction / exhaust it sounded like a sewing machine. Also, a bit slow for 2300 ccs.
Multistrada 1200S - I know, fairings.... This is an exception.
XR1200 - booming v-twin goodness, although I'm concerned that I won't fit comfortably - I'm 6'2", and about 17st. I'm not fat, but kinda like a bear I guess. Anyway, will I fit? Will it be too slow?
Commando 961 - A bit of a wildcard. How's the depreciation on these things if you actually use them?
I need whatever I get to be reliable. I'll keep the bike for a few years and probably do 20-30k miles. With a few euro-jaunts too. My Speed Triple was completely unfaired. I'm tough enough to do all day on a French motorway, and not complain too much about the wind. And I like naked bikes too. However, I can't be arsed with breaking down every 5 minutes. Tinkering I don't mind too much (I'm a mech by trade), but if it's every time I look at it, I'll resent it eventually. It needs to sound GOOD. Preferably a twin, but I'm open to triples too. And maybe a V4...
Thoughts? Suggestions?

How about a Diavel? Booming V-twin with plenty of power and a change from the Speed Triple. Or the new Thruxton R when it comes out?
You should have kept the triumph though, I still miss mine 5 yeas on!
I had a few hours on a Rocket 3, hilarious but I don't think I'd want one as an only bike due to the weight and size of the thing. The one I rode had accessory silencers and sounded lovely.
I've been kind of looking at Nortons myself and have been put off by tales of engines using loads of oil or failing. There don't seem to be many that get used a lot.

J B L - I'd forgotten about the Streetfighter! I took one for a spin a while ago. And it was mental. And I loved it! I'll start hunting out a few a think, get a feel for the prices.
Speed addicted - I'd not even considered a Diavel. Are they that good? What do they ride like?
Everyone else - I love my Speed Triple, but time has come to move on to something else I think.

They get great reviews, I couldn't find one for a test ride but did get a seat on one. Comfy enough with a slightly locked in riding position, they have the same 150bhp 1200 as the Multistrada. I'm also 6'2" and or the larger persuasion and I think if you're used to touring on a S3 (I had mine 3 years and did a 3k mile week around Germany on it) you would be ok.I was looking for a replacement for my VFR1200 as an all round bike than also does touring and ended up with a Triumph Explorer. The Diavel was a daft choice for my usage but I was willing to risk it when I get passed by one in the street. If you're looking at the Rocket 3 then this is a much more sporty choice.
There's a new "sporty" Victory based on the Indian Scout out in the next few weeks.

Victory of some sort (if you liked the rocket / cruiser thing. Plenty of go to do a cross France and back run.
Kim 1290 duke?
New yam vmax?
Yam Xjr cafe racer?
New xdiavel?
Edit: beaten to it. That new victory looks interesting, I like the way they're going.
There is a Harley that may fit the bill. Stick with me here, I know it sounds insane but:
