That was a wholly unpleasant day's commute.

Horrible fine drizzle all the way in and back out again so it was like riding in fog as my visor was just covered in st that smeared but wasn't wet enough to clear.

And I felt as smooth as a fking cactus on the way home. Feet down all over the place and slow as fk. Felt like one long old slog through excrement.

Not happy.

Coming home it wasn't that cold comparatively to recently but despite no rain or drizzle the road surface was just plain grim damp/wet/crappy - I have to say however PR4s still continue to do their job fantastically.

I'd rather a bit of proper rain or clear but frosty than have this ste.

Looks like tomorrow will be the same.

Commuted by air to Jockland today, via a nice breakfast in the first class lounge smile Picked up a new (new new, only had 5 miles when I picked it up) rental car and it actually has winter tyres on it!
Did you go for the Eggs Benedict of the menu? Last time I had it in GF a few weeks ago they did it with pulled pork, and really quite good.

Although I used the American Airlines arrivals lounge in T3 last week for breakfast after an overnight flight. Crapped over the BA T5 with better showers, and breakfast menu offerings. Even the tea was good. Yanks doing good tea, who would have thought!?!?!?!

100% agree - It was so bad tonight that I've been looking at cheap winter bikes with big screens.

Dirty spray all over the visor, smeared but not wet enough to wipe off, and keeping your visor open above 40mph (even though it wasn't cold) results in stream eyes which starts to hurt at about 50mph. wobble

It's not warm enough for the roads to dry out, it'll be like this for the next month or two. frown

I doubt that. It'll lash down at some point

True, but then the roads will still be wet with the dirty, gritty muck on them, and they still won't dry out. Granted, it'll be easier to ride for a day or 2 when it's properly raining...

I've given up commuting on 2 wheels at least for this week. The salt residue/slime is just horrid & dangerous. I simply hate not using the bike at least twice a week....

Got the bike out today and it is lethal, where i live there are alot of tractors using the roads and the mud has been compacted for 100 m stretches so it looks like 'brown ice'!

Today is the 1st day where it has become like sludge. My bike was clean before today. Back to my car from now on.

Much better this morning - no fog. The road spray was unpleasant but at least it wasn't stupidly cold. Agreed on the grip though - thankfully the Metzeler's have been really good so far.

I'm at home today because I have three reports to write which I can't do when every man & his dog are bugging me in the office (yes, I *am* busy but I need a break!), but I'm really missing a ride on the bike.

Indeed-I've left my bike firmly in the garage for the past couple of weeks for this very reason. The greasy, salty roads are minging! The bike needs to go back to the dealer to have the inoperative heated grips sorted but I'm putting it off for now as I refuse to get it covered in corrosive, horrid crap.

Seriously missing riding it!

You get all the noddy bikers commuting at this time of year who are only doing it to save money. FFS can they learn how to ride properly and filter? They don't need the whole space on a road like a car. And they need to learn that they CAN accelerate quicker than a car and get out of my way (I was in a car today).

Snap.. Seeing lots of this I'm noticing it on my bike - note I'm enjoying my own personal space and sanity by not taking the packed tube, money doesn't come into it - bike doesn't really save me any money if I didn't apply man maths to it to argue the case for insurance servicing costs not counting smile
Seems to be some lower powered stuff with L plates and Dullvilles in particular for me acting as the mobile road blocks generally. Still also seeing super aggressive riding from some other l plate 125s lol it really is funny them trying to get ahead of me off the line. That or those 250cc or 300cc slack pretend sport bike next step full license things
1050 triple is one of the easiest bikes to launch off the line with minimal throttle and effort. Generally one or two sets of lights educates them and at least on the bike you can generally dispatch the road blocks if not gridlocked

Another filthy fking day out of the way.

Just cleaned my lights and mirrors.

No real issues with other riders to report. Everyone's just getting on with it and not causing any great problems.

Yep, had a prime example of one this morning.

125cc chinese supermoto (sinnis? it was orange) filtering through normal traffic for the road - 2 lanes of stationary/slow moving cars with a nice big gap down the middle. One mirror which he may as well not have had as it wasn't adjusted correctly (was looking right back at him), left leg down all the way filtering through gaps big enough to get a goldwing through, at 3mph... with me stuck behind. rolleyes No revving or LED headlight was getting his attention, so I made my escape when he stopped filtering in the middle of the road, I saw a gap and went past.

Gotta love the car drivers though, yesterday morning on a 40 minute commute in thick fog there was 4-5 cars with no lights on. Always silver ones too... mad

I think they're probably the Rail Strike Wobblers I mentioned some weeks back, same happened the last time Southern took unpaid leave mad

I too got stuck behind an extremely slow filterer yesterday whose mirrors were clearly set so that he could look at himself, not behind, and thus had no idea that there was a queue of about a dozen frustrated bikes behind him.

I need to take down some paper towel/water tomorrow morning to do my lights and mirrors. The mirrors are currently smearing the white residue crap around when I try to clean them with gloves at any traffic lights
I basically need to clean my bike over the weekend the current nasty crap on the road is all over it - hoping the warmer weather prevents any potential icing up issues that might have occurred recently.

Same again this morning, took me the same time to do the last 25% of the A102 as it did the other 75% due to someone tiptoeing their way through. Other bikes were actually trying to pass him whenever there was a gap but he still didn't get the hint.
