I'm actually off work next week so no commuting for me but.... Tower Bridge is closed from 1st October!!!!
This will completely cluster f**k traffic even more in this central London area from Monday onwards, so be warned if you use this area as part of your commute!

TFL Warning:

Inner Ring
[A100] Tower Bridge (E1W ,EC3N) (Tower Hamlets)
Closures

From: Friday 30 September 2016
To: Friday 30 December 2016

Last updated 13:04 Thursday 29 September 2016

Works | Borough

[A100] Tower Bridge (Both Directions) - Closed to all traffic, including bicycles, from Saturday 1 October to approximately Friday 30 December during structural maintenance and refurbishment works on behalf of the City of London. Northbound traffic is diverted via London Bridge and southbound via Southwark Bridge. Pedestrian access is maintained through most of the works, bar the weekends of 26 and 27 November, 3 and 4 December and 10 and 11 December. Find out more about the Tower Bridge closure, including a map of the diversion route and likely traffic impact.

I bet they don't amend the congestion charge for those who have to pay it! Isn't Tower Bridge the only possible eastern crossing outside the zone, without going down to the Blackwall? Will probably screw that route too.
It's going to get really exciting as the north bound diversion is across London bridge which already has the bulding works on the north end forcing 3 lanes into 1.

This is exactly what it will be like ....

In terms of eastern crossings there is the single lane narrow Rotherhithe tunnel also outside the zone (between bermondsey/surrey quays and Limehouse) before the blackwall tunnel but thats it
Apparently if the drivers follow the specified TFL diversion the congestion charge doesn't apply. I'll be back on the bike from 10th once its been closed a week so something I won't worry about anyway - I own a car but I'd never be stupid enough to ever drive it into central london unless an emergency smile

I like it when roads are shut. The A40 at Gypsy corner was cloased this morning causing all sorts of chaos. Obvs I'd hate it if I was trapped in a car, but on a bike it's great.

Oh. My. God.

I use London Bridge every day. As from Monday my commute has extended to Canary Wharf instead of the Walkie Talkie building. So which ever you slice it, this is st news for me. Google actually says it's currently quicker for me to take the m25 round to the a2 and go in via the Blackwell tunnel. But it's nearly 3x the distance at 61 miles and it would be crippling in consumables.

Time to switch jobs again.

There must be some sort of epidemic effecting cyclists as I saw one this morning doing a very clear hand signal before turning right.

I also saw one go over a pedestrian crossing while someone was waiting to cross. While waiting for the pedestrian to cross, I noticed that the cyclist was wearing a helmet that from the distance looked like an orange peel. Once I got alongside to have a little word, I noticed that he was wearing what I can only describe as Ali G glasses and had a whistle in his mouth. I reckon he was about 50yo. I bet he gets really angry

Obviously not the muppets I saw at Box Hill yesterday - they think they own the fking place rolleyes

Commuting highlights: fog eek Oh, & a white van flashed me to let me turn right at a busy traffic light controlled cross roads - he MUST have been a biker himself!

I once got waved to stop by a police cyclist at the top, close to the NT cafe. I pulled over on my WR450 and took off my goggles and asked what the problem was. He claimed I was speeding. How the fk he knew without any equipment god only knows, but maybe it was more to do with the cycling event that was one that didn't warrant road closures.

I questioned how he knew what speed I was doing and he started to change tact to the dangers of riding to close to cyclists. I asked him if I did that as I knew I had given them loads of space.

Needless to say I was told to be on my way and to drive with care.

Even the cop cyclists are assholes

Next to no Mamils this morning at about 7am. It was brilliant. I thought that the return journey would be as good. But no. This evening they were out in herds. Ugh. Had to emergency stop as one of the fkers randomly went from one side of the road to the other. Complete twunt.

I was putting fuel in the bike at the time so I guess `Commuting' is pushing it a bit? But ...

I'm stood filling the bike up.
Little Renault builders van at the pump opposite me, with a tall baldy headed bloke filling it.
Blue Seat Leon pulls up behind the builders van and a screechy woman gets out. She goes straight up to the tall baldy bloke and begins her tirade. At first I thought she was having a go at him, but it becomes apparent that they are together or at least know each other.

(Screechy woman at full volume)

SHE NEARLY HIT ME.
THE BLOODY IDIOT.
SHE NEARLY HIT ME AND I HAD TO BRAKE REALLY HARD TO MISS HER.
THE STUPID GIRL JUST PULLED OUT AT A MILLION MILES AN HOUR AND ALMOST TOOK MY FRONT BUMPER OFF.
SHE NEARLY HIT ME!!!!
IDIOT!!
SHE NEARLY HIT ME AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN STOP, I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.
THEN ANOTHER GIRL JUST CAME PAST AND SHE LOOKED AT ME AND DID THIS (I didn't see what `THIS' was, but I'm assuming she flipped her the bird or something?)
THEN SHE ZOOMED OFF WITH THAT OTHER STUPID GIRL.
I'S SO MAD, SHE NEARLY HIT ME!!!!!!!!

And so it carried on.

Throughout the entire episode the bald bloke just stood there, and didn't utter a word to screechy lady. He only lifted his head once where I caught his eye and caught a `F*ck me' gaze from him. He was clearly dying inside and wanted to douse her in super unleaded and throw a match her way.

Having ridden through this mess on Friday I'm a little unclear as to why this is great, I bloody hate the 'matrix runs' through really congested blocks of 3 lane traffic, especially heading west into the low sun. I was pretty grateful I only had to do about a mile of it before I got off. No way I'd call that sort of thing enjoyable but may be I should just stop being such a fairy and just get my head down and twist that throttle...

It was probably a motorcyclist riding a pushbike. I rode around on a pushbike the other day and gave hand signals.

Definite highlight of the morning was seeing some actual plod doing speed gun checks in the village. Pulled the Saab ahead of me and gave him a proper bking.

There is a community speed watch in the village whom I like to see out. I'm all for a little excess speed in the right context but villages, just no. Had a chat with Mr Plod as I had had to stop behind the Saab and it was great to see he had a full list of perennial speeders to look out for.

Don't count your chickens. Are they still on piece work down there? Really poor way to run a safety critical business when it was.
