And today's commuting highlight is...
Discussion
I was quite tired last night and it was raining and my sat nav had I the past suggested it would be as quick to get back to Weybridge from Canary Wharf by taking the blackwall tunnel, A2 and M25, as it would be going across town. So for a change and as I felt I was at risk of being particularly complacent on the usual route, I took a different route home.
There were 3 breakdowns, just on the A2. I filtered all the way from the north entrance of the tunnel to the M25. In the dark and rain. Then on the M25 which was also piss wet through, my filthy headlights did a woefully inadequate job of lighting up the standing water and my worn out tyres slipped into and tracked along every single fking imperfection on the road, with the off hint of Aqua plane for good measure if I crept above 85-90.
Highly unpleasant way to spend 1.5hrs on a Friday night. Still only 15 mins longer than going across town though.
New tyres going on in two weeks.

Closure of the A404 at around 2.30 this morning. I hope everyone in the crash was OK; lots of emergency services in attendance. Was pretty cold (-1) and had to wait for them to close the carriageway so we could turn around and go back up to the last entry slip.
Amusingly one copper told me to get away first before one of the drivers doing a 100 point turn hits me...

Held Freezer IIs with Patagonia inners, worked just fine this morning. Fingertips a bit cold by the end of 20 mile commute but all in all OK. And I have bad circulation in my fingers.
Also managed without thermal linings in either jacket or trousers.
Today's highlight: arriving at work warm enough to as usual confirm my proper hardcore status.
Today's lowlight - Bike smashed on the pavement outside the Mint. Didn't catch the model but looked like it had had a head on. I'm guessing into the side of a car pulling out from Cartwright street. No sign of anyone around. Hope the rider is OK.

It's that time of year...!!!
Yesterday being my first day back on the bike for 3 weeks, I was pleasantly surprised how light the traffic was. Cyclists seem to have got frightened by the dark and the cold
This morning was quite a bit colder. The winter drivers are showing their true colours. Had quite a few moves made on me this morning by drivers trying to peer through envelope sized clear patches through their iced up windows

Commute was generally ok this morning but I'm being extra careful due to the cold weather seemingly numbing the car drivers brains even more than usual. Seen some truely random lane changes and moves this week already.
My only issue my fingers are freezing cold esp having to cover levers - so have ordered some heated gloves and they've been shipped this morning - this will hopefully resolve having a lack of heated grips on the bike. Esp a lack of OE Triumph heated grips available for my bike and not convinced which 3rd part kit I would have fitted.
The cold weather had thinned out all but the hardiest bikers and cyclists. However still seeing a ton of cyclist in the part of central london my office is in though.

Pondering getting back on the bike after a back injury that's had me working from home for the last two weeks.
I tried a ride at the weekend and the worst bit was just getting on and off the bike. So while I think the ride would be fine I'm a bit nervous about having to drag it out of a bike bay, slipping and nearly dropping the bike and reinjuring my back in the process.
How long have you guys stayed off the bike with a prolapsed disc?

I've not had a prolapsed disc but I have had nerve related back stuff before. In your place I would leave the bike until I can push it around or at least prevent a drop if it happens to get to that critical angle. This was my commuting highlight today:
The Arabian sun rising over the wing of an A380. Yes, it WAS a commute, I'm working in Dubai this week
For today's posters above, it's a pleasant 32 degrees here....

Highlight for me this morning was the heated seat of the car...no space in the office car park so had to put some money in the meter for street parking.
Came down at lunchtime to see if I could move off street and found I'd got a ticket as it was a one hour bay. What is a one hour bay? Never noticed it before as all the rest of the street is standard pay and display. I think it is only there to catch people out. bds.
Back on the scooter tomorrow.
