Got pulled over this morning....
'I dont mind you passing me, but when you rocket off into the distance thats not on.'
Wasn't doing anything stupid, but then Im not gonna argue with a copper that was clearly looking to get someone done this morning...
So filtering at a reasonable pace and getting of the lights quicker than a snail pace seems to be classified as 'rocketing off'
No ticket thankfully...
How odd, he must have been having a bad morning. On the whole I have found the police rather good in London, even with some enthusiastic filtering as it turns into the M4 going out of London they have just let me carry on.'I dont mind you passing me, but when you rocket off into the distance thats not on.'

Once i get past High Wycombe in the morning I feel like the police are more relaxed about bikes slicing moving traffic. Do that near Bristol/Wales and the police throw the book at you!

Coming in on the M3 this morning - just at the start of the A316 - and on the far side of the road were the most police cars that I think I've seen in one place. The entire west bound carriageway was closed and they were turning people away at the roundabout - this would be about 6.15am this morning. There was nothing on Absolute radio traffic which seemed a bit weird as an entire carriageway was shut. Does anyone know what happened?
Yep - police chase ending in a fatality.I came up the M3, the back of the queue started just under the M25 at around 8am. I filtered at around 20-25 mph all the way as the traffic was pretty much stationary; I let a couple of other bikes pass me when I could slip into a gap between cars - no point holding someone else up just because I was taking it easy!
Not sure which way most people were going, but I ended up going across to the A30 / A4 to get into town - made a pleasant change

The only think that's really important. The rest is a pain, I know, but forget it and move on. (Although don't move on too quickly, you might get pulled again!!!)
Yeah, wasn't too bothered about it. Just more of surprised, cos I see a lot worse riding everyday. Including 2 scooters that wobbled around him - I stayed back and pulled in next to him at traffic lights. Overtook him off the lights and started filtering at what I thought was reasonable speed. That was all after watching him wobble about for a mile.

Think he might've been new to being on a bike. Was on a bmw f800 gt I think, remember looking at belt drive. Any other time I had come across bike coppers was absolutely fine, got waved through to filter in front by few, got a nod or just a blank look. This one seemed pissed off.
Well my calamitous adventure with the new bike continues...my exhaust, well slip on, fell off on the big roundabout at the top of the Old Kent Road, underneath the flyover!
Thing is it doesn't sound any more noisy than previously.
I did a loop and retrieved it and ta taken a bit of a knock...now need to find another on the bay, although this'll go again it looks rather ugly/messed up.

Fitted my heated grips & muffs last weekend, felt pretty happy this morning that I didn't need to hug the engine at the lights to warm my hands
Nice & warm all the way in, even had had my new Alpinestars El-Nino suit on ready for the sleet/rain that I didn't see but guarantee if I hadn't of worn it, it would have p*ssed down.
Ride home looks like it might be a wet one...

Yesterday evening's highlight was mildly amusing. Parked in the Minories car park, and if you know it, it has metal railings to separate off the bike parking. There are gaps to get in and out and they are big enough to get most quads through. But not big enough for a Z1000SX.....matey boy took two bites at lining his bike up, and then folded in his mirrors to get through, before flipping them out again once he had managed to squeeze through the 4ft gap. I loled.
Not quite sure how he's going to manage to filter, perhaps he's one of those who just sits in the traffic.
I also park at minories, what bike do you have? Mine is a bright loud tuono Not quite sure how he's going to manage to filter, perhaps he's one of those who just sits in the traffic.

Three in a week expect the London cycle box crack down to come soon, cos that will fix it NOT!

Still closed going home last night so I diverted up to the M4. Even that had an accident. Then the M25 had two lanes closed. I can't imagine how long it would have taken to get home in a car.I came up the M3, the back of the queue started just under the M25 at around 8am. They say you get a fine if you have the slightest millimetre in the cycle box; and 3 points (!!!) if you have the slightest millimetre over the front line of the box. Today I saw a Rozzer with half his bike over the front line of the box.Cyclist killed in Silvertown HGV crash - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-389237...
And the punishment for cyclists being beyond the box, or whizzing round the outside and crossing in front all the way to the left just as the lights turn, or behaving like crazy bds or going through red lights or undertaking on the inside around left hand bends?......

You've pretty much captured my thoughts. There is clearly some ''education' dare i say enforcement and associated financial penalty required on the side of the London cyclists too. Equal fair enforcement. And the punishment for cyclists being beyond the box, or whizzing round the outside and crossing in front all the way to the left just as the lights turn, or behaving like crazy bds or going through red lights or undertaking on the inside around left hand bends?...... */tumbleweed*
Whilst yes there are cyclists killed or injured by poor driving there are also cyclists killed or injured by their own actions too.
My point was hammering motorcyclists for using a cycle box isn't going to fix the root cause of cyclist safety and since I'm sure the stats will back it up I'm wondering just how few if any cyclists are killed in accidents with motorcyclists in London each year?
I've enjoyed my peaceful and relaxing week off work and the commuting, back to normal come Monday though.
I do wish this grim weather would do one though first if possible
