I've been on the hunt for a 330d/335d touring in red for quite a few weeks now but there doesn't seem to be any! Was red a factory colour? Is there anyway of checking how many were made?

There doesn't seem to be that many 330/335d estates in any colour, but red cars especially never seem to come up on Pistonheads or Autotrader. Should I be looking anywhere else as well? I'm in no rush to find one, but the fact that I've been checking for over a month now without any joy, suggests they are as rare as unicorns?

They are not very common, in fact they are like hens teeth, I've not seen a red E91 335d ever, and only 2 330ds

IIRC it's Japan red, which IMO isn't very nice, and red is my favourite car colour.

Had it been Melbourne or imola red then I'd understand why you would want to hold out for one however.

I've seen a few in various forums, but looking at the number plate, looks like it maybe just the one car! Is this melbourne red? Perhaps it was ordered with exclusive paint?

If that's a 2005 car then it might be Imola or Crimson Red.

from another thread on here: http://www.drcolourchip.co.uk/
scroll down to 'Start Your Order' and enter the car year/make/model, and hit submit to see available colours

Would it not be easier to get a standard colour car, such as black and then get it resprayed in the colour of your choice?
May be slightly more expensive (possibly?) however you could have it within a week.

Vinyl wrap would probably be cheaper (and better at preventing stone chips).

Just got pointed to this thread by a mate, that is my car pictured above and is Japan Red. I've only seen one other 330d M Sport Touring in the 2.5 years that I've owned it, and one 335d M Sport Touring too, so yes they are very very rare!

It had a very good spec from new, and I've since retrofitted tons of stuff too.

Full spec:
LCI Facelift M Sport black leather 3 stage heated seats with matching door cards
Dual zone climate control
Auto lights
Auto wipers
Rear parking sensors with visual display and audio warnings
Hill hold hand brake assist
Heater timer to turn it on when wanted
Cruise control with brake function
20gb audio storage
MP3/CD/DVD player including DVD player in motion
Rear cargo/dog net
BMW boot tray
Factory xenons with upgraded LED angel eyes. Now also coded as bi-xenons
Retrofitted FRM2 light control module, allows any combination of lights to be coded as DRL's or welcome home lights.
Factory LED puddle lights in door handles
Full set of LED bulbs
Full CIC idrive retrofit with correct CIC controller LCI brushed aluminium dash, console and door trim
Combox with BMWConnected apps, telematics, full iPod control, USB in console armrest
Drink can cooler in arm rest
BMW Performance gloss black kidney grills
BMW Performance alcantara steering wheel trim
BMW Darkline rear lights
Split opening tailgate with auto retracting load cover
19" anthracite CSL reps with M3 size 9.5" rears, non run flat matching set of Continental tyres
Hifi speakers upgrade with under seat subwoofers, also custom loom from USA to allow extra sub/amp to be added
Hands free bluetooth phone calls
Multifunction steering wheel
Rechargeable torch in glovebox
Bluetooth streaming audio
Text message delivery to idrive screen
5 flash comfort indicators coded
Digital non corrected speedo coded
Wiper park if interrupted coded
Windows close on engine off or door opened coded
Discreet alarm arm/disarm chirp coded
Eibach Pro springs
Gloss black 330d badging from USA
45+ on a long run.
Remapped to 290-300bhp, approx 500lb/ft torque
6 speed manual gearbox

I've also got a pair of rare LCI roof rails without the gap to fit, they are currently being sprayed gloss black

Ah, very rare then! Your car looks amazing, that's quite a list of things you've done too, looks awesome.

I may have to consider something else, loving the 330 engine but not really a fan of the new bmw looks, may have to be a 3.0TDI A4 avant instead then, red is still pretty rare, but not this rare smile

You've lost me!?

So you've been actively looking for a red 330d and found pics of mine which you liked, but now that actual car is found and for sale you want an Audi instead?

<thread hijack>

djdest - did you retrofit the 20gb hard drive an associated gubbins?

I've a fairly plain spec E91 330i and having drive the wife's fully specced up F20 125i I've got used tot he creature comforts. Hence looking to potentially make some upgrades. If you've a link to your build thread I'll take a mooch

oh where does it say it's for sale?! all I got from your post was that you'd done a lot of mods to the car and that you'd never seen another red one? looks like your post above may have been edited by a moderator? want to pm me the advert?

Still blatantly obvious that it's being advertised for sale, since the mod edit says 'no advertising please' laugh
